question about pioneer Z1 Unit and HDD...

Does anyone know how much of a beating the HDD can take? Im thinking its not a good idea with all the NYC roads and stuff I travel on. I am thinking of getting the Pioneer Z1 installed. I already ordered the 2-DIN unit from orbital. Anyone know the leadtime on these?

By how much of a beating I mean, normally if you drive on bumpy roads or if you hit a big pot hole and a HDD is not shock mounted, the needle will crash into the platter. If you still dont understand, throw your computer out the window and tell me if it works.

if you go through bumps/pot holes you'll be fine. granted you dont go off some cool jumps you'll be ok.

not to be sarcastic or anything...but i bet the engineers at pioneer thought of that before they made it.

good luck...if you need any help finding one lemme know.

the z1 will be fine, i have seen z1's as the source of some pretty bass loud systems and they hold up fine! and i have one in my evo and it has never skipped a beat.

as for the orbital 2din piece, if you order the more expensive factory color matched one it might take longer. someone posted earlier that it took 3 weeks to get theirs, well mine took 7 weeks.

thumbs up to orbital. I ordered my piece (the metallic matched one) and got it in less than a week. Very good seller and I would recommend them to anyone. I am gonna try and get the following installed this week:

Pioneer Z1
XM Tuner with traffic
Bluetooth
iPod interface
Rear View Camera
6 CD/DVD Changer

Ill post some pics when the install is all said and done. Thanks for all your help.

the bluetooth isnt worth it...you can only store 5 contacts?

where are you gonna put the rear view camera?

you can only store 5 "favorites", but you can upload your entire phone book, though I haven't figured out how to do it.

Just got everything installed. This unit is kick ***. The bluetooth works beautifully. I imported EVERY contact from my blackberry (over 200). Bluetooth is def worth it.

I put the camera right above the rear plate. The one thing I cant figure out if how to have it always on, so that I can have it split screen with the nav like its supposed to work. I turned everything on like the manual said to and cant figure it out.

iPod integration and XM traffic is amazing!

P.S. Thanks again to orbital performance, their kit works beautifully. The AC controls are a little tight, but ill just get in there and like WD-40 them or something.

I believe if you push the "Map" button twice, it lets you pick which screen...and I think one of them is the split screen with the rear-view in cases where you would tow something.

Mind posting pics of your rear-view camera?

Yeah I got how to get to the split screen mode, but the left is just black, it doesnt receive feed until the car is in reverse. I am getting a unit put in tomorrow that will let the camera switch on anytime I want it to.

Ill snap some pics tomorrow.

Is it necessary to bypass the rear-view camera also? If thats even possible...
