Very bad experience. Don't miss it. Please read
I am here to pass you very important information that could save you a lot of money, hassle, time and stress.
I had a very bitter experience with a local autoalarm/stereo place today. I had an appoinment made from last week to have boths Evos fitted with a dual zone motion sensors today at 0900am.
Last week I spoke with the store manager and he told me that there will be no problem installing the optional dual zone motion sensors on the Evos.
So today I took the Evo 9 first and after waiting patientely 3 hours and paying them nearly $200 r (just for the dual motion sensor upgrade alone) the assitant manager comes to me and says:
-- " I have good news and bad news. The motion sensors works but only if you leave the windows open. Your car has semimetallic tint film and our sensor can't see through the semimetallic windows"
Unfortunately it only detects motion through the front windshield...
Last week the general manager told me that the sensors will work without problems on my car. He expalined me that one sensor can see through glass and the other can see thorugh the seats.
You guys couldn't believe how mad I was. They could had told me that my windows were not compatible with the dual zone motion sensors due to the material of the tint film. Unfortunately they did not tell me that until after the install.
When I made the complaint the assistant manager said: " unfortunately we can not disccount you anything on the labor because it took us XXX hours for the job.
Instead,he offered me an option of removing my pristine existing tint at the cost of $70 and installing me a recommended ceramic film tint at a cost of $300.
They said that they have to wait until Monday to see what the general manager has to say and what options I have.
Just for the record guys and girls, be sure and be aware that some dual motion sensors don't work with all tint windows. I am trying to save you the hassle, the time, the money and the stress.

No kidding but wouldn't you at least expect to have the word of caution to at least let you know that not all the motion sensor work with all kind of film?
You don't go to a tire shop and have them install a 185/60/15 tire on a 17x8" rim sort of speak. People now days are very unloyal.

Guessing this shop is in AZ, so I won't have any problems with them. But that GM didn't have a clue to tell you such crap. Anything to sell some services... I actually had some honest answers come from my area Circuit City on the same exact topic. Sensors "seeing" through tint. Told me to stay away from metallic and that not to get a low %; something around 27% or above should be fine they said.
Sorry about you're bad luck with them...

Tint blocks the range of them some but it should not completely... but let me ask u why do u want it to pick up motion on the outside of the car. It will go off for no reason at all if a leaf blows by etc... What brand motion sensor did they install? DEI makes one of the best ones out there i think it cost around 75. They should have let u know tint will have an effect on it but im not to sure on what type of a range u were expecting it to pick up.
