need advise on how to finish my stereo !

alright, i have the following components and want to make sense of them, without spending anymore money. please keep in mind that i dont want this to be a show system, i dont want to loose my hearing, just some clean music with some clean base. anyhow here is my weird set up:

CDA-9857 headunit from alpine
cdt audio es-620 components in front doors powered by 2-channel polkmomo C300.2 amp
cdt audio M6 6.5 inch mid/bass speakers right now installed in the rear deck connected directly to the headunit.

how do i bring out the base in this set up without introducing another amp or building a sub box?

is this possible?

headunit, cda-9856, looks like 18wrms x4
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QTsH27i...56&search=9856

es-620 speakers which are the mids, looks like 150rms
http://www.mainstreet-audio.com/Merc...Code=ES_SERIES

M6 speakers, looks like 150rms
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_id=4848

amp is 150 x 2 @ 4 ohms
http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/specs/c300_2/

i was thinking maybe moving the M6 mid/bass speakers to the front door and moving the mids of the components to the rear, connecting these back to amp as well and introducing a baffle, i dono

if you swap those speakers forget all about SQ. honestly, you aren't gonna pull much bass out of a set of 6.5" speakers. Also, with those crossovers connected, you're cutting out all of those low tones. you're gonna have to spend a little more $ to get any kind of bass out of that setup.

I have a pair of M6's. To my (admittedly untrained) ear, they seem capable of pretty decent lower frequency output. They are rather power hungry, so having them powered off the headunit without any crossover control is hindering this output.

Given what you have now, you may want to consider picking up AT LEAST another 2 channel amp (150W RSMx2). If you want to stick with a single amp, then I would swap your 2 channel for a single 4 channel (150W RMSx4) running both the components and the M6s. Those M6s will really come alive when amplified by least 150W RMS. I would not treat them as full range speakers though (e.g. you want some crossover control).

If I had your system, I would pick up another 4 channel amplifier and a 3-way electronic crossover. I would then ditch the passive crossovers and run the ES components off the 4 channel in an active setup. I would definitely keep the ES-620's in the front doors. I would use the POLK amplifier on the M6s bandpassed from (about) 50-300HZ. This might be more than you're looking for though.

Hope this helps

how about buying like a jl audio 300/4 and running the M6 off channel 3/4 with x-over settings on the amp itsself?

also what about the fact that these sit on the top rear deck with all that trunk space behind them?

Smartest think to do is ditch the rear mids, get a simple 10" and a small amp. You're looking at maybe 20-25lbs that is completely removeable for racing situations.

ok

i appreciate all the feedback, but again, i would like for someone to tell me what I CAN do with what i have with minimal additional investement, i know that i can get sub box with separate amp, etc but thats not what i want to do, how about

how can i get the most clean base out of the M6 mid/base speakers with them being placed in the rear deck? Anyone wiling to take a stab at it?

all you can do is add more power. And even doing so, the bass wont be worth the cost of the power upgrade.

My setup will be quite similar to yours, except I am running the M6s as part of a passive component set and will be using a single, sealed 10" in the trunk. I considered a setup nearly identical to yours, and may wind up switching to something very close if I'm dissatisfied with the sub (its not installed yet). I'm using a 4 channel amp with CH 1/2 to the front speakers and CH 3/4 bridged to the sub. It seems many people are thinking of the M6 as a "traditional" 6.5" speaker. They are a little different in that they've got some substantial mid-bass capabilities. For more information on them, here are some links:

I suppose your choices depend on just how much additional investment you're willing to provide. It is entirely possible for you to purchase one more 2 CH amp. In terms of immediate investment, this is the cheapest way to get the speakers the power they need. If you're willing to switch to a four channel (keep in mind that you could sell your current 2 CH), I think that the JL 300/4 makes a great choice. You may also want to consider one of the Alpine PDX series. I'm using the 4.150: It came rated at 4x171 RMS, its small enough that I was able to fit it under a front seat, and its quite efficient. I couldn't be happier. Here's a link:

Good luck!

man

now thats what i was waiting for, Thanks a lot,

300/4 is what i was looking at, i might also consider your amp, since you have the M6, not sure where yours are installed, i assume in front doors.

The other option i was considering is a 4 channel amp and then building an enclosure for the M6s, well see

Your assumption is correct, my M6s are installed in the front doors; I'm not using rear speakers. Based on your goals with the system, I'm not sure that you'll want/need to build an enclosure. Infinite baffle should work fine. Whatever you choose, get those speakers some power and tweak it until you like it.
