So, I just installed this deck w/ all the trimmings of Focal comps, JL 4 ch, MA audio mono amps. And, the sound sucks! It's on CS surround mode because when it's off it sounds worse! I'm not quite sure where the weak link is or they're all junk, from the HU to the amps. Oh yeah, and the CD player craps out on the first day. It's motor will not suck in the CD! On the very first day!

Anyone else running this CD5000 and happy w/ it?

Eclipse HU ergonomics is pure junk! you can hardly turn the vol knob w/o slipping on that cheezy plastic chrome. But worse, it sounds like crap even w/ 8v preouts!

Ahh, where can I find those old Eclipse HUs, seriously?

My old setup w/ it, I think it was Eclipse 8403 (non-powered) HU, JL XR comps, Eclipse amp, JBL mono, Alpine sub - kicked ****!!!

 

I have a 7000 and it sounds good takes a little while to set it up though... havent ever had any issues with the cd player part, nor has anyone of my customers that I have sold them to

 

i like eclipse units they are sweet

 

mine sounds great i put the 5000 without anything else with stock setup it was a drastic improvment. i still have to order the rest but it definatly helps the stock system. what i found was that the display is ****ing horrible and at night 4 buttons light up WTF???? theres like what 10 more that dont i thought that was ****

 

I have the eclipse cd4000 powering a 4 ch and mono kicker amps and am really happy with it, sound quality is great

 

even with the stereo perfectly flat (the way it should be), your amps should do the work as far as crossing over, etc.

What are your xovers/gains set at?

 

Ok guys, I have a confession to make. After tweaking the HU and unbridging the JL 4ch amp. The setup sounds rather impressive! And for whatever reason, HU's CD player started playing again! My sub amp MA audio still did not work. I got suckered into the clearance sale of this amp. I think it's a junk.

Since then I replaced the 4ch amp w/ Eclipse EA4000 and awaiting on Eclipse XA1000 sub amp. Also, replaced Focal Polyglass comps w/ JL XR comps. XR is finer unit w/ greater detail and overall audio reproduction than Focal. But, at times its tweeter is a little bit too sharp.

Overall, Eclipse CD5000 sounds as good as my old fashion Eclipse HU w/ passive non-amp powered unit. But, the advanced audio setting w/ CSII is little gimmick for me or too bright of sound. I prefer the normal audio setting w/ position selector of "Front". I do though am still disappointed w/ the HU's lack of proper ergonomics.

I did'nt want to unfairly slander Eclipse brand.

 

Ack, you're replacing JL stuff with Eclipse, and replacing Focal with JL components?

Ugh. JL's components are not that great, despite their amps and subs being wonderful (IMHO). Focal's crossovers are some of the best in the business.

And an Eclipse amp instead of JL? JL makes some seriously good amps, I doubt anything Eclipse has can match them... although I have no personal experience with Eclipse so if someone can prove me wrong, please do.

 

wow, yet again! Yes, please do try Eclipse amps for yourself, first.

Base line Focal polyglass is not better than JL XR. Comparable maybe but not better. Focal's highend K2P which goes for +500 is superior but not all Focal comps are better!

 

lovethe focals....eclipse qulity had gone done.. i think. ( in their head units).. amsstill good... ut id rather run an allfocal system... subs compinents and amps... atleast thats what im planning todo..i have p tecqnique subs and amp for the moment... nad it gets the job done....

in the near future id do my upgrade...

but how is the jl better than the focalk2p?...

 

I absolutely hate JL comps. Id rather run stockers. Personaly.
