Suggestion for Sub amplifier
Hey all,
I am running two Punch P2 10's. Both are dual 2ohm voice coils. Any suggestions on a good amp to power these? I would have gone with dual 4ohm coils, but this was the last set left, and I got a good deal on them. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

If you're looking for something that wont kill your alternator, an Alpine PDX1.1000 might be a good way to go. It's small, light, and extremely efficient. I've been happy with mine on a stealth install under the seat. No problems so far.
If you're looking to be at the absolute top of the game and have the space, a Zapco would be a strong choice.

It depends on the construction of the woofer, and just how sensitive they are. Big heavy competition subs would sound like crap or not be a good choice if you don't come anyhwere near their RMS rating. But then they usually have a "Crusing" rating and a max power rating - so you know what to expect and won't get your feelings hurt.
But a more conventional inexpensive sub like a p2 would be fine with 150+ watts of good clean power. Just not earth shattering.
For instance I have a MB Quart 12 in my Eclipse that is fed by a ~250 watt mono channel off my US Amps amplifier. The woofer is rated to like 350, I think. Combined with the hatchback its more then loud enough. I'm past the stage where I need 4 12's or 2 15's in my car like I had during my early years. For my Evo, I have an old school Punch 200ixDSM which I will bridge 2ohm mono into a single Punch Stage 3 DVC 10".

A good fosgate 300-500w rms amp would push those really good. People hate on fosgate, but imo they are very good bang for the buck. When i used to sell car audio for a shop a few years ago, we loved to sell fosgate, customers where never unsatisifed, we would never have to worry about the product comming back for returns. MTX isnt a bad chioce either tbh. Of course there are better brands out there, but if your ballin on a budget go fosgate.
I think Rockford makes a 500 watt monoblock Punch if I remember correctly, that's basically made for running two p2's. Wire each sub to 1 ohm and then wire them together in series to run the amp at 2 ohms. I think for 2 p2's an Alpine PDX is a bit of overkill. We're not talking W6's or Type X's here, and those amps are mucho dinero.
Go with a Polk Momo C500.1 it is RMS 500 @ 2 Ohms. I have installed these before it is small enough for stealth if you want it that way. Your other option would be the Rockford amp that was suggested earlier. Personally I don't like Fosgate because of the way people use them because of their reputation they are abused. I have yet to see a decent Fosgate apparatus. No one puts them in the right type of setups. You sound smarter than that though since you already know you are going for SQ. Just my .02

Thanks for the replies guys! Right now I have a Punch 4002 that I will probably run them with. Like others said, I just want good SQ, no boomin the neighborhood!
So to run it best, I would take the positive and negative from each coil on a given sub then go positive to negative when bridging to the amp? Kinda hard to explain in words....

4002 probably wouldn't be the best choice, since it's not 2 ohm stable, as most 2 channels aren't. So, you'd have to run the subs in parallel which would run the amp at 8 ohms, which means you'd get about 100watts per sub, which for a p2, sucks.

Ok, I think I am going to go with the P6001bd. It is 600watts RMS X1 at 2ohms. More than I need, but leaves me a little room to upgrade in the future if need be it. Plus it seems to be the closest rated to 500rms.
Kinda side question..... would the 4002 be ok to run my MB Quart 6.5 Premiums? Reason I ask is that I have the amp, and need to get an amp for the components. Just hate to buy another and lose on the 4002.
Thanks.

Yeah, that should be fine. A little more than what they recommend, but MB Quarts are known to be able to take more than what they're rated for. Just don't get retarded with the gains and you should be fine. Who's installing all this?

Also a noobie question..... in the crossovers for the Quarts, there is an adjustment plug of sorts for different frequencies. What exactly should I do with it? I do notice that they are VERY bright. Currently I am running -4 on my treble setting on the HU. Any good way to tone the tweeters down some? Woofers are in doors, stock location and the tweeters are flush mounted in the door panel beside the handle. Stock tweeters are disconnected.
Thanks for all the help! It has been many years since I have really done anything stereo wise.
