I was considering the Pioneer 7800MP & 9800BT for the pretty color screen and Burr-Brown DAC, but after trying them out in the store, I disqualified them based mainly on the interface. The control knob and awkward interface felt like they would be too bothersome to use while driving. Looking at other headunits, the Alpine 98xx range won me over with ease of use and expandability. I bought a 9885 from Crutchfield and installed it this past weekend. I couldn't be happier! Even better, adding the Ipod and Sat capabilities to the 9885 are cheaper than for the Pioneers, and HD-radio and Bluetooth can be added too.
I think I will stop by Bestbuys before I make the purchase. Didnt really have much time to play with the knob. But I do know what your saying. 7 way knob: up, down, left, right, push in, twist left, twist right.
