Anyone know what the stock radio (non ssl) power is rated at?

OEM or aftermarket headunits will provide between 10-22 watts regardless of the "rating". Head unit ratings are done with only one channel driven and all settings at maximum while playing a test tone while connected to a large regulated power supply. The difference from the best to the worst will be 3db of volume at most.

 

Thanks for the explaination. Basically im looking at a 22x4 RMS headunit and I was wondering how much the stocker was putting out.

Pioneer DEH-7800MP to be exact.

 

The 7800, no matter what the stocker is rated at, will be 1,000,000 times better.

 

Ok just found out Pioneer has a 7800MP standard and a 780MP Premier. Both the same price so this should be a no brainer right? Both models look the same minus the "Premier" logo.

Well just from Pioneer's description on it's "Premier" line, it sounds like they are the gineau pig models and the standards are the "perfected" models. Im not sure. Any input?

 

From what I have heard the premier models are suppose to be made with better components on the inside or something like that, thus the two year warranty. Some other things i have noticed betweent the two is like the premier might come with a remote, where as the coresponding pioneer model wont. If they are the same price, and you are buying form an authorized retailer that honors the manufactures' warranty, the go for the premier for sure.

 

They are identical. Pioneer launched the Premier line after Sony came out with the Mobile ES line. It was a way of signing more dealers in the same area with product. Kenwood did Exchelon, JVC did Arsenal, its just marketing. Get the extra warranty, the quality is the same.

For not much more (or less, depending on where you look) you can get the Premier 880 PRS. The dual rotary knob system is a little easier to work with, especially if you're using an iPod. I think the unit itself has a more basic classier look, and the white display is easier to see in sunlight compared to the color screen of the 7800. If you're interested at all in your tuning options, the 880 has a separate EQ for the right and left side, and also a "pro" mode, which allows for an active setup. If you're into that kinda thing.

 

The stock radio is 15x4 RMS... 35x4 MAX. According to the datasheet...

 

in the past, the premier models came with extra stuff and higher preout voltage.

in the case of the 7800 and 780 they are EXACTLY the same (and this is coming from pioneer themselves)

only difference is that the 780 has a 2 year warranty.

This is true if you go back to the DEXM88 head unit they had the best preamp ever offered in a head unit. Pioneer didn't offer a non Premier version of their flagship model. Back then they also gave you the SLX II tape head that gave better frequency response with metal tapes. That quickly became irrelevant and was dropped.

 

Thanks for the recomendation. But I really liked the 780/7800 when I saw it in the store. Color screen and custom slide shows sounds pretty cool. Im not a huge audio buff so I dont exactly need all the bells and whistles.

Now should I go through ebay or crutchfield. I really like the free wire harness.............
