Question Navigation, Speed Wire and JVC KD-NX 5000 ? ? ?

Well as the long topic states, its a mix of the 3. I just got my new JVC Single Din Navi Unit and was required to locate the speed wire. I had been advised it was the Black Wire with the Yellow Stripe ECU PIN #80. We tapped into that wire but still my Navi is Callibrating ? ? ? Am I missing something, can someone confirm specifically on a 2006 Evo 9 MR which one really is my speed wire or VSS and where can it be accessed ? ? ? Oh and is the wire Digital or Analog ? ? ?

Thanks in advance,
MarK.

P.S. The JVC unit is awsome!!!

Did you attach the ebrake wire? If you try to bypass by grounding it, the unit will not calibrate. You must have the ebrake wire properly connected during the calibration process. Also, you can try either the BLK/RED or BLK/WHT wire (depending on year) under the steering column. They run into the OBDII port. I will be installing my KD-NX5000 this afternoon... I'll let you know how it goes.

How did your install go? I just finished mine today. What a pain in the ***.

The unit calibrated, but sometimes it shows me a block off the right road. Don't know why.. perhaps the unit has to "learn" more. How many levels of calibration does the unit have to go through? Mine just says it's on learning level 1.

Whats up bro,

If you get a chance PM me your contact number as I have a hundred questions for you in regards to the install and I don't want to have a hundred page thread on the board - LOL -
The unit is awsome but it's goint to take some tweeking to get it to work seamlessly , I just got my bluetooth working (with the JVC bluetooth unit) and its great.

Thanks,
MarK.

Mark, I sent you a PM with my home number. I'm on the east coast. If you call, don't call past 10:30 as my kid is going to be sleeping. Otherwise, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Whats up James,

If it's not too much trouble call me whenever you get a chance as the Navi is killing me and I really want to get it up and running so need to ask a few questions as I am still lost on it - lol - I can't remember if I already did but I'll shoot u a PM with my contact info and if you don't mind calling me when your free it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
MarK.

Speed sense calibration for NAVI's can take 20 miles or so of driving.

I have the same unit installed on my Evo IX SE. I connected the pink wire from the unit to the black and yellow stripe cable on the cable running to the ECU. And it worked for me. Not sure why yours is not working. Im located in NY. I can take you to my installer if you are interested. Let me know.

Whats up bro,

I could not get my unit to calibrate for the black yellow. That being said we used the black/red wire under the steering column from the OBD2 port and it is working fine. I appreciate the help though and we'll all have to meet up one of these days and go for a drive. I love the unit, I got the bluetooth and ipod accessories and they work just right. For the money I am very impressed and it sure beats waiting 6 weeks for the double din Orbital piece!

I got the KD NX-5000 unit last week and installed it, I too have been looking for the VSS wire to tap into it. I have just come accross this and hope it helps ...

This is for the VIII, not the IX.
