stupid question, I know
stupid question, I know
I just was given a free amp and etc. by my brother-in-law, and was wondering if there are outputs in the factory stereo. Eventually I plan to upgrade to quality stuff, but for now would like to use what is free, if it will work. Thanks in advance,
Jesse

If the amp has high level inputs, you can tap the rear speaker wires and connect them to the amp. Or you can connect a line out converter behind the factory radio now and use rca wires, then when your ready to install a new head unit, the rca wires are already there. Its easy and line out converters range from 7 bucks at walmart to 50 bucks or more at audio shops. So technically, you can still cheap your way out.

to you for the tip man, thanks
7 bucks rediculous? True he is being cheap but some folks may want to retain a factory look. And if that were the case, I'm sure adding a JL clean sweep to a factory radio along with the supporting equipment would probably crush the "real head unit" that you had in mind.

I'll even admit to being rediculous, since I tend to be the do it right or dont do it type. My line of thinking of this is simple: 300-500 laptop/reflash cable >300-500 nice head unit, and thats only a starting point. One of these days I'll be (almost) satisfied with the power and handling(beware of autoxers) of my car, and will do a real stereo with top end components. Right now Im just going to go with what is free and cheap, so I dont feel bad if I accidentally damage the speakers or something.
I totally agree with NoTec. I've done it before. I had a factory radio in one car can't remember whuch one that couldn't just be swapped out with a new headunit. I got line-out converters from Radio Shack, ran the RCA's and the amp wiring kit and it was done. It actually sounded really good. I think the system was a Bose or Harman Kardon or something with some quality to it. It's fine to do and it works.
