Pics of my DIY Sub box
I wanted to put a sub in the trunk that was easy to remove and didn't take up too much space but I haven't build a sub box in years........(mid 90s). I thought I would give it a try again.....I mounted the Alphasonic 5 channel amp to the back of the seat with the help of 2 pieces of metal on the backside and built a box that would slip in under the DC Ti Bar.
The base of the box is longer and wider so it touches the sides and back of the seat below the amp and the face is on a slight angle (hard to see in the picture). The carpet was the best I could so for a match.
Total Price for the box = $20.00 and 3 hours or labor

The box looks pretty good. I am not sure I would one sub that much air space because I like my trunk space. But you must get some really dynamic sound out of it.
I am interested in the answer on how the sound is with it firing at that angle, because I have plans to fire my subs at a similar angle.

It sounds good.......I have had a JL10W in the box, a older R/F Punch and this Alpine......
The Alpine sounds the best followed by the JL (which I think is a better sub....just not in this box) and the Punch did not sound very good at all.
I am not into the deep thumping/booming bass....I wanted a crisp clear bass and a good "fill"
I will pull the box and take a couple more pictures of the angle.

I know a little bit about the subs.. but what if you had one mounted in open air in the trunk.. too much air space to get some nice bass.. or do you really need the enclosures? I have a smaller sized box with a 10" JL audio sub that works well enough.. still moves when I launch it hard. I was wondering if there was a way to mount it upside-down in the trunk so I can still have a large trunk area and get some bass into the car.
Pretty niffty install. Box is easy on the eyes and has a nice low c.o.g. Most people don't realize that if you have time and materials, building an enclosure from mdf or fibeglass is relatively inexpensive when compared to what the pro shops charge.
