Stereo retarded. Some quick questions

I'm not a stereo nut so I'm asking for a little patience.
I have an eclipse 5435 in my other car and will be installing it in my EVO non-ssl.

Are other people using head units without amplifiers for their stock speakers?
I think the eclipse is 15 watt rms per channel.

Will it sound like *** compared to stock?

It will sound better on the stock speakers. Be careful, as it may damage them if you use it at high volumes.

When/If you ever get new speakers, get an amp too.

Thanks guys.

Maybe it's my non-audiophile ears but I like my stock system. It's not great, but it's not bad in my opinion.

As long as throwing this head unit in without an amp will sound better, great

The Eclipse head will definitely sound better because the signal quality will be better than the stock unit. I run a mediocre head to drive my non-SSL stock speakers and subs (subs are amplified of course) and it still sounds much better than the stock head. Since you live in Mass, you can drop by and check out exactly what I am talking about.

But, like LayinLo mentioned, try not to go crazy with the volume until you take some load off them or you will damage the stock speakers.

Thanks for the advice.

I thought the stock system was comprable in wattage to the eclipse?
The eclipse is 15 watts rms and 50 peak per channel.
Isn't the stocker around the same?
I don't really play my music too too loud so hopefully I'll be fine.

The stock speakers are 15w rms at 4 ohms. You can look at the rest of the specs in your owner's manual. Regardless, even if the stock head were rated at the same wattage, I can guarantee you that the quality of the signal from the stock head is nowhere near the quality of the signal from an Eclipse head.

went bare-minimum into make those things, so the quality of their components is low, which means the signal quality is going to be low. Eclipse, on the other hand, uses high-quality components and design to output extremely good quality signal. If the speakers get garbage signal in, then they are going to put garbage signal out. But, if you get them a good signal, then they will spit out a good signal.

Does that make it clearer?

Much clearer thanks.
Now I have to buy another eclipse unit to put back in my other car.

I think someone referenced this point above... Those stock speakers weren't made to handle the abuse of a higher output deck. They probably won't last very long. But it will def. sound better while they do.

No problem. We should roll together some time. Maybe to the weekly eastern Mass meets, whenever I finally get around to going to them.

That is why we mentioned not turning up the volume too loud. As long as the speakers are not put under extreme output stress, they will be fine.
