Just installed Jensen VM9312 (low volume static)

Ok just as the title says I just installed a Jensen VM9312 which in dash flip screen dvd player, etc...... Anyways the unit is absolutely flawless, I also just put in the ebrake bypass code to play DVD's while driving. Anyways my only complaint is that at very low volume where you cannot hear any music playing I can hear static, it's faint but it's still there. Whe I start up a dvd I can hear the radio through the low volume static. Once I turn up the volume all seems fine. What could be the cause of this???

I aksed my dad and he said that's usually a sign of a bad gorund, is this true? I could not find a proper ground for the unit so I left the wire off until I could find a good one. To my suprise once the unti was mounted screwed down it worked without the ground wire hooked up. Has anyon ever experienced a problem like this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

probably grounding (badly) through the antenna. Just ground it to some metal.

You can ground it by sliding a ring terminal in between the plastic and metal screw hole where the factory radio screws in or drop a wire down to the cig ligter is the easiest. The best would be to a piece of metal in the dash without paint or with a star washer.

Ok I just grounded it to the metal casing surrounding the radio. I had to take the glove box off to get to it but it basically clamped the wire down with a bolt. This casing is attached directly to the frame. I can tell the radio was grounded because didn't hear a pop when I plug in the antenna to the headunit.

Now the problem is that I can still hear the radio when I have the volume set to 1 with either a cd or a dvd in. It will play the station that it was last set at. I checked all my connectons over and everything is fine. I even wrapped some electrical tape around the rca connectors where you can see that metal showing just in case. The weird thing is that you can only hear the radio through the rear left speaker......strange

However messing with the there is something called RDS which basially searches for the name of the radio station when you tune through and it will show it to you. When I turn RDS to off I can no longer hear the radio everything is fine. It seems like this function does not know how to shutoff problem when changing inputs. Has anyone else experienced this problem??

Sounds like a problem with the unit. Seems like you've got everything wired properly now.

I got everything figured out now. I went onto the Audiovox website because the own Jensen and I submitted a ticket stating my problem. Within 3 hours I got a response back with a link to download the software upgrade and there was another link with instructions. I had to burn 5 files to a cd-rw and insert the disc into my unit and let it download. Funny thing is the is desrcibed my exact problem for the upgrade. not entirely muting the radio when you switched to a cd or dvd and it only played through the left rear speaker. After the software upgrade everything is perfect now!

Installs just like any other headunit, i've done a ton before so it only took me 15 minutes. I just bought the harness at best buy. I needed a special adapter though because I have an SSL sound system.

The unit is flawless and picture is good, it's not HD but it's good.

low volume static is probably from the fet's in the amplifier (possible that you may not be able to mute it)

i have the unit to. I like it. No issue. did you run it on the stock speakers? I am looking to upgrade mine. Sounds a heck of a lot better than stock, but want something clearer.

A bit off topic here, but does anyone have the link to the above mentioned firmware? I've mailed to Jensen some days ago and haven't received any answers
