custom enclosure quote

I went and got a quote for a custom enclosure for a single driver, I haven't ever looked for a 'custom' enclosure, but now I have a car worthy of something that looks good and fits right in there. Anyway, having never looked, I wasn't sure if the price was reasonable, I was quoted ~600 for a fiberglass enclosure, the guy said a full day, maybe day and a half, I did the math, ten hours @ 60 which is what he said the custom rate was = 600. Whats the going rate in other places?, he said normal shop time was 45 an hour, this place is pretty reputable, not a big box store by any means, but def a chain. I looked through some pictures of his work and it looks nice. Any thoughts?

Seems a little high. Are they building an amp rack with it? The local shop I've been working with to choose all my components quoted me around $450 for a custom fiberglass box for a JL 10W7 with an amp rack to hold two JL amps.

I stopped off at another shop, got a lower quote by 75$ or so, but the guy didn't seem to have much of a clue, and I was thinking he was pretty green. I have one more spot I'm gonna check out here locally and see what I come up with. I don't want to cheap out on this, I have finally bought a nice car that isn't cheap in my eyes, and I don't want my stereo to look that way either, granted I don't want over the top stuff either.
Mconsolia4, I've seen those before, not quite the look I'm going for, no offense, but it doesn't look much different than an enclosure I helped a buddy build in his garage for his civic a few years back, that is also one reason I'm not building something myself, it was a pain and took forever.

MConsoliA4, could you PM me info on that box please, such as the Volume, Diameter or the hole, wall thickness, and pricing? I would appreciate it!

Thanks

I made mine (side firing) and 10hrs is about what I spent to make mine. It really depends on where you want your sub facing. A rear facing sub can be made with MDF and fiberglass and might be slightly cheaper.

Thats what I'm talking about, it takes a long time to build something like that, which makes me feel better about dropping coin like that, I just had no clue what the hourly rate was for some of these shops.
The shop I stopped by today was in the same ballpark, but the place was a pig sty, not that the other places were'nt, but this was the worst. I'd be afraid to leave the car there to have something fall off one of the shelves onto the car or something

Building a side mounted fiberglass enclosure. I just saw the post by audio integrations, I'll have to check them out, their shop isn't too far away from me, and it didn't pull up on my search -- never knew they were local

I'm heading down to audio integrations this weekend, during my productive work day yesterday I finally browsed the whole site and noticed they're about a half hour from where I live, never knew they were there. I shall be giving their product a good look over
