Cool My stereo install...lots of pics (NEW PICS POSTED!!!)

Hey guys. I've been trolling around on this forum for the past few months and have tried to help out on the audio forum as much as I can. Well, here's my chance to share my newly-installed system. I won't post everything tonight since I'm not 100% done (haven't built my amp rack yet). But, I've got enough to share. Thoughts welcome

List of components:
Kenwood DDX8019 double din DVD head unit in the Orbital dash kit (with Navi, Sirius, iPod and Bluetooth)
JL Audio 300/4 amp for front and rear speakers
JL Audio 500/1 amp for sub
JL Audio ZR 650 components up front
JL Audio XR 650 coaxials in back
JL Audio 12W6 mounted in Audio Integrations enclosure (more to come on this awesome sub enclosure)
JL Audio amp wiring kit, RCA cables and speaker wire
(guess I'm some kind of JL Audio ***** )
Bquiet sound deadening in trunk and doors (I posted a bunch of pics of this in another thread)

I had to build custom speaker baffles to fit the front and rear speakers...1/2" MDF...wasn't that hard to do (let me know if you want instructions)...here they are...

Here are my doors before and after midrange speakers installed on the custom baffles...

Here are the rear deck speakers installed with the custom baffles...

I installed the crossovers for the front components under the driver's seat. I used the bracket that holds the SSL Infinity amp. Just removed the amp, cut a piece of wood and mounted it. Then mounted the crossovers to the wood. With the seat on you have no clue they are there...

That's enough for tonight. I've got other pics of all the wiring and of the interior gutted so I could run the wires properly.

Enjoy

Thanks man. It was a lot of work. I spent the entire weekend taking the car apart, running wires, fabricating the baffles, etc. etc.

Sound quality is amazing so far...and I haven't tweaked a darn thing. Haven't played with the crossover setting, EQ, amp gain...nothing. It's the exact type of sound I was looking for and will only get better when I tweak it.

I'm actually running without the tweeters up front right now

I ran out of time this weekend to find the right place to put them and get them mounted. I'll install them this weekend. I'm trying to stay away from the factory location...tweeters that close to the windshield usually sound too bright because the reflections of the sound off the glass. So, I'm trying to find the ideal place in the door or kick panel that will have the best imaging.

Once I get the tweeters installed I'll post pics of those as well.

Got more shots of all the wiring and the subwoofer/enclosure coming soon

I've got a set of Diamond audio K2 powers for the fronts and put the tweeters in the stock location. They actually don't overpower the woofers.

You may want to give it a shot before cutting into the doors.

Here are more pics of the interior torn apart so I could route all the wires.

Power wires are down the driver side. Speaker wires and RCA cables are down the center of the car straight into the trunk. Everything is wrapped in flex tubing to protect it.

Coming soon are pics of the subwoofer enclosure and amp installations...

And, the final batch of pics...

Here's some of the amp rack that I built to hold the two JL Audio amps, the two crossovers for the rear coaxials and the power distribution block. This amp rack sits down in the spare tire well (who needs a spare tire when you got AAA?)

My new spare tire!!!

Now, here's some pics of the JL Audio 12W6 sub mounted in the Audio Integrations enclosure. This enclosure is built very solidly. The fiberglass is a good 1/4"-3/8" thick all the way around. No resonance at all. The bass is extremely deep and tight. Just the way a 12W6 should sound.

And finally, here's where I mounted the tweeters. Up at the top of the door. I tested a bunch of different spots and thought this gave the best imaging and staging.

And the Kenwood head unit and Ralliart CF console...

Hope ya'll have enjoyed this install. It sounds pretty damn good. Might be good enough to get into an sound quality competition and do pretty well. Hope it may have given ya'll some ideas too.
