Very true.

Definitely one of the more interesting threads here in a long time.

The neo stipulation really removes a lot of fantastic woofers. Not sure you'll be saving quite as much weight as you expect, but for the sake of the thread:

When the DIYMAs were first released I considered buying one, but IIRC they are in the neighborhood of 40 pounds--pretty similar to my Ir12 (from a weight perspective).

THERE's a weight savings! Although I'm not a huge fan of TB, that is definitely the concept I was looking to explore--shallow mount, neo-based, considerably lighter than traditional subs.

This is probably a little closer to what I was thinking -- Aurasound 12 (4.8kg = ~10.5 pounds)

http://www.madisound.com/pdf/aurasound/NS12-513-4A.pdf

BUT, can it be used IB???

Probably gonna have to be pure digital to be lightweight (at least lighter than class A/B)

Well I just spoke with my former team mate Lee, he recommended the Image Dynamics IDQ's for a light weight IB setup. He runs IDW's himself (oh how i wish i could get my hands on those lol).

You can see pics of his install here:

That's very interesting. I have been looking at IDQs. Not a neo magnet, but also not a heavyweight. Ahhhhhh . . . . . . IDWs.

Thanks, Custel.

I'm not a big fan of Memphis (for no particular reason,) but I was shocked to discover how small their 1000D amp is.

Might be worth considering.

And if you're not fiberglassing, build the baffle from Birchply. Much lighter.

* edit; box =/ baffle.

no problem He recommended a baffle atleast 1" thick, his IDW's are bolted into a 2.25" baffle ....

Yikes; 1/2" MDF weighs 2.5 lbs per square foot.

That makes for five pounds a square, plus hardware.

*edit: Hey, Custel. I remember you from ca.com
