Quick disconnect steering wheel adapters worth it?

I see that this quick disconnect is quite ppopular and am trying to understand if its worth it or not.

I was thinking cars with fixed seats that place the driver close to the wheel would probably find this usefulf more.

I have corbeaus on sliders and am 6ft 2" tall and genrally have the sliders all the way back. I am not sure how this will benefit me, per say.

I want see what people who track or race think of this setup and why they went with it?

Thanks!

wow, 2 replies and neither help - please don't let me thread be the grounds for a pissing contest - can someone tell how they help - for racing I know space concerns and driver changes, it helps. Theft perhaps, but for HPDE use etc, I am curious how it helps...

it doesn't help...its main purpose is to get out of the car when you have a fixed seat.

Do you struggle getting out of a race bucket with the stock wheel? If it's not a pain, then you can just use a long hub and put the aftermarket wheel where the stock one is and be good.

If it's ever popped in your mind that "hey, it'd be easier to get out of this car without this danged steering wheel in the way!" then you need a short hub and a quick release.

But, there's also the added security of being able to put a locked cover on the quick release and stash your wheel in the trunk or something.

I dont think so..I have stock seat and stock wheel and would consider this mod. just for when Im at the track. Because I do have a removable side bar for the street. Maybe hard to tell from the pic but there is not much room to squeeze out of the car when the bar is in.

Modern Seatbelts are designed to work WITH airbags by stretching during an accident so the energy dissipation is not all in the belt. by letting your body move into the airbag it reduces the chances of whiplash & other injuries. this becomes a problem if you are using an aftermarket wheel with no airbag. without the airbags to compliment the stretchng of the belts the steering wheel will be what stops you.

i was in a offset head on collision when an idiot turned into me while both of us were both doing roughly 30 MPH. when i got out of the car my seatbelt had stretched to almost 2x the length & was literally hot to the touch from stretching. i have no doubt that i am still here today because of the airbag.

aftermarket steering wheels are fine, just make shure you use a harness with it & not the OEM belts

if you already have a wheel & were just asking bout the quick diconnect, i apologize for going off on a rant go for it, just keep in mind a quick disconnect will typically move the wheel closer to you than a non removable mount

no worries - seat belt assemblies have been fully removed. Harnesses and cage to follow this winter. Hence question to guy above regarding cage! I am going autopower 99%, but a part of me wonders if I should have a weld-in cage instead!
