Shave those pounds ...

Hi guys,

looking to lighten up my EVO6, current 1360kg (3000 lbs) want to hit 2200 lbs.

Where do I start, what do I do ...

Where do I buy the parts from, since the exchange rate is in my favour, I may as well splurge ...

Cheers..

that is a ton of weight to drop in a car!!! Is this going to be strictly a track car? Need more info to see what to tell you to remove for safety reasons.

Ok, sorry to be so vague.

Yes, it is going to be a Track Car, but a registered one at that ... for the Sunday thrill drives..

I want to keep the front windscreen glass ... for safety ... thats as much as I know...

I'm thinking along these lines :-

Full stripped (bare metal)
minimal paint
Seem Welded
Chrome/Molybdenum Roll cage
Cut Down Dash

thats as far as I have got ....

no glass, gutted doors
and youll have to cut open all the pillars and remove the chassis braces and weld in a cage.

Pretty much anyway you go you wont be able to hit 2200lbs considering that your car is more like 3200 wet, not 3000

do a search, type weight reduction.

You will find many many threads that already cover this.

Ok, so its a big ask ...

Where can I look for parts, bonnet, doors, windows, boot, wing etc...

Is there somewhere I can buy all these parts, or do I need to hunt around for all the bits and pieces...

yeah something that some people might be over looking is that he has a 6 not a 8 or 9 so its already lighter. 2200 is a bit lofty though.

for sure all the bumper braces, ac and possibly the power steering.

You can try those rally specialist shops, they have a bunch of fiberglass door stuff carbon fiber boot lids and hood. You can try Varis in japan, or Jspeed. Get plexy glass windows for doors and rear window. Remove stock fuel tank and install a fuel cell, new brakes, titanium exhaust, downpipe, lighter cat (if you're running one), carbon fiber roof panal, carbon fiber wing and other bits of aero. Forged wheels will also help. Replace the dash with a carbon fiber one, I know they have one for the Evo 6. Get a Dog box transmission from ralliart, it'll eliminate all the synchros so it'll be slightly lighter as well. Carbon fiber seats, New wire harness that doesn't have all the leads that you need.

Thats all I can really think of right now.

Ok, need to find a weigh station, get a dry figure, then start ripping things out ...

Want to do all the Doors, in Carbon Fibre or Fibre Glass. Windoes, everything except the front windscreen. Air-con out, Dash Out, Interior Gone, except to new front seats. all deadening gone. Only functional wiring, rest gone. Boot + wing in carbon fibre ... will do the Bonnet too (is the alloy bonnet lighter??).

That will be a start ..

That's was I was thinking roughly, beyond this, I would struggle ...

titanium exhaust, does that require a new mortgage ??

Thanks for the feedback ...

Titanium exhaust... ummm the cat back is only 1300USD if you go for the GReddy Ti but forgot who made the Ti downpipe section and I think that was around 800 USD. So yea, you might need a loan for exhaust. You can also replace your front fenders with CF ones and maybe your 1/4 panel as well. Depends how far you really want to go with the weight shedding and how muhc you really have to spend on it. They also might have a CF prop shaft for the EVo 6.
