IX Oil Temp Gauge Dead

Anyone else suffer an OEM Mitsubishi oil temp gauge failure?

It's been working fine for over a year now but within the last month or two it has ceased reading any temperature at all.

I've yet to troubleshoot it to either the gauge or sender but wanted to know if anyone else has experienced it and what they found the problem to be. Thanks.

The OEM oil temp sender is located in the oil drain plug. The wire may have become disconnected.

I took extra care to be especially careful while changing my oil. I purposely didn't want to damage the connector at the drain plug end. Next oil change I'll see if I can't clean out the connector with rubbing alcohol. Maybe that's the problem.

As far as going aftermarket, I'm very interested. I'd like to continue to use the Mitsubishi mounting chassis so the replacement gauge will have to be the same size. I don't expect an aftermarket gauge to use the same connector though at the plug, correct? I'd wind up with a plain jane Evo oil plug sans thermocouple lead I'd guess.

No one makes a gauge that is OEM sized. The mounting hole will have to be enlarged.

Another reason that you may want to consider aftermarket is just try to purchase the oil temp sensor/drain plug by itself......I will make this simple.....you CAN'T...
Need to purchase whole new gauge assy. from Mitsu,at over $200.00 for just the Oil Temp Gauge complete with wire harness and Sensor. Good luck in what ever you choose.

If anyones intrested I have the MR gauges removed but the wiring (including drain plug) is still in the car, The gauges have only seen 15 miles from the dealer to my house and removed, and the temp sensor wiring has seen less than 2500 miles. Im changing my oil on monday to install a sandwich adaptor and I could replace the drain plug then. The whole OEM kit is up for grabs just make an offer. (radio boomsling wiring harness and all in working order). I just need to find a replacement drain plug.

My gauge almost never works until I reach under the dash and giggle the wiring harness. Then it works fine for a while. I keep meaning to take it apart and attack it with the soldering iron, but I just haven't gotten around to it.
