Stock Radio Brand and Recommendations?
Does anyone know what brand the stock radio is? I'm trying to figure this out, because i don't want to replace the factory speakers, and i also dont want a 60x4 watt headunit to replace it with that will shread the factory speakers. Does anyone know a good radio to replace it with that will match the factory RMS watts?
man-- i have an 03 lancer OZ with a 50W x 4 panasonic deck -- im running stock speakers still in the front and until last week was running all stock speakers and they survived fine. i blast it and those little 15w mitsus didnt blow---ive had the deck for a good 6-8 months now

The stock speakers will work fine with most, if not all, aftermarket decks. Aftermarket decks tend to only run 20-22 watts RMS. I'm guessing you're just looking for something basic, so just go with whatever major brand (alpine, sony, pioneer, kenwood, etc) that happens to be on sale. Or keep an eye on the classifieds section here, there's usually a few used ones for sale.
yea im not looking for anything fancy, my Evolution MR didnt have a option for the infinity radio. I just want something that the volume gets louder. when i burn cds and turn the volume to 49 its not loud at all.
I'm also in the market for an aftermarket headunit. I've already purchased and received the MITAH adapter so I'm squared away in that aspect. I'm looking for something that will match or beat the power of the stock radio and be able to play my MP3.

no such thing as plug and play with an aftermarket HU unless you get the adapter harness.
I got a Kenwood for my MR as the first mod (the car didn't even have 500 miles on it) The stock head unit sucks so bad its scary.
have a look around a few audio sites also keep in mind the features you want. MP3 capability, HD radio, ipod adapter, flash drive adapter pre-amp outs, etc
there is a wealth of options all will sound better than stock

I've used a Panasonic Digital Processor 60x4 for about 3 years, no problem at all on the stock speakers. Its a bit more powerful than the typical 50x4, and I eventually upgraded to the factory Infinity speakers that came with the SSL Evo's and they have been great too.
There is a bunch that you can look at in the audio section. I did a ton of research on this and it came down to the Pioneer 790BT and the Alpine 9885 head unit. Almost 90% of what i could find on this forum recommended the Alpine unit. I found it on Crutchfield.com and onlinestereo.com for great prices. I ended up going through crutchfield because it included the IPod adapter and a portion of the Sirius set up. The head unit ran me 250.00 no tax and no shipping. I have to tell you i am amazed at how improved the sound was with just the headunit. Next will be the bluetooth.
I'm looking at purchasing a new head unit and I know that the Evo stock radio is a single din. I was wondering if any single din aftermarket hu will work? I'm asking this because Crutchfield says that some of units I am looking at won't fit. Here are the headunits I am looking at:
Pioneer P4900IB
Pioneer DEH 6900UB
JVC KD-G820
JVC KD-PDR30
Pioneer P4900IB
Pioneer DEH 6900UB
JVC KD-G820
JVC KD-PDR30
Everyone has a different taste but I like the JVC KD-G820 model. It's has a USB drive you can save all your music into the USB flash drive and plug it in. Better than the skipping CD player especially with the stiff suspensions. It also has different color you can choose too on the LED screen
