Infinity 1211a and 2 12's
Infinity 1211a and 2 12's
I have an Infinity 1211a amp. Anyone have experience with this amp?
The infinity amp is rated at 854W RMS @ 4 ohms and 1300W RMS @ 2 ohms. Is this an accurate rating for it?
I would like to push 2 Type-R 12's with dual 2 ohm voice coils. R's are rated at 500W RMS each. With the 2 ohm subs I should be able to max out the subs with a little to spare. Is this accurate?
Right now I am running a single jl 12 rated to 400W RMS at 4 ohms. The wire running to the amp is "4 gauge" but was a cheap one and looks pretty wimpy. IIt also is split to my mids amp through a distribution block. The amp is turned up pretty high (3/4) and when I turn the power on the head unit up much, the amp/sub cuts out.
Obviously I am not to good with this.
I guess I am looking for:
If I direct wire the amp with a better 4 gauge wire from the battery, will it be able to fully push the type r 12's at 2 ohms without causing the amp to cut out.
Thanks a lot!

there should be no reason why its cutting out...i had 2 12" R's with a Hifonics 2000rms amp and they take 1000rms all day. even though the amp rarely had a 14.4V system to it. 650 to each is still plenty for them.
what kind of car do you have, do your lights dim when you turn it up??
1300rms is hard for some stock cars to handle, and may cause the cars electrical to overload. and as long as that 4guage wire is not damaged and works good it should be fine, but if it bothers you try some monster cable, or similar brands.

What volume does it start cutting out at? Does your headunit have a dedicated sub out volume? If it does, what is the range and what do you have it set to? What head unit do you have?
I'm pretty sure your cable is fine. It sounds like you are either clipping the heck out of your amp or you might have a bad connection, most likely ground.
