SSL Evo new Headunit

I have read the sticky which stated that if i want to retain my amp/sub i will need an extra wire harness. One question i have is that i plan on gettin an avic d3 and a differant sub for my car. Is the amp only powering the sub? or does it also power the speakers? Basically what im asking is if the separate harness is just to keep the sub ? any information the the subject or anyone who has done this would be really helpful.

The two different harnesses are necessary in order to connect the factory amp to your new deck. One harness has the bassic wires to hook up the deck such as power, ground, ant rem 12v and so on. I think it was like 4 or 6 wires. Then the other adapter connects to the cable running from the amp and it splits it into 2 sets of RCA's front and rear. It also needs to be connected to the rem 12v. It all hooked up really easy. Im not sure why so many people have trouble with this. I ordered my deck from crutchfield so it came with all of the necessary wiring to connect it. If i were you I would keep your factory amp at least for now in order to power your speakers, and just unhook the connection going to the factory sub. Then just hook up your new amp and sub to your deck like you would on any other car. I have an Alpine 9885 connected to my factory amp which powers my stock speakers and i installed an Infinity Basslink. I am extremly happy with the overall sound quality of my setup. Its not the most expensive or anything but it doesnt take up much space in my trunk and i think it sounds great to my ear. If you have any other specific questions feel free to ask.
