Does anybody know who can do the best job at modifying my rear crash bar to work with a jdm 9 rear bumber, and still have the crash bar work like it should on a stock evo 9?
find as many posts and as much info as you can from evom. print all of it out including pics and check your local yellow pages for "welding" or "metal fabrication" or something that will yield results to a welding specialist. show him the drawings and have him modify it for you.
Steve, what's the chance that an insurance company would respect a claim if the rear bumper support was modified. I'd love to have a jdm rear but just can't take the chance of denied insurance claim if anything ever did happen.
if you're hit in the rear, it's most likely not your fault anyway. The other insurance company would have to pay regardless.... I would think. Unless they want to trump up some bull**** loop-hole - mechanically contributory negligence?

Its so painfully easy. Take off the bar. Grind off the spot welds. Drill out the spot welds on the attatchment plates. Set attatchment plates on car, set bar there, mark it. Clamp it, Fill in holes you drilled out with the welder. Paint so it doesn't rust. Done.
Go to your nearest tool rental place and rent a MIG welder for $30-$35. You could have never welded anything before in your life and do this.
Its that easy.
Or send it to Steve and he'll do it.

I have a crash beam that I will modify to work with the JDM 9 rear bumper. $200 shipped to your door. After modifying it I will prime the entire bumper and spray paint it with the color of your choice (Duplicolor or some other common spray paint). In my opinion you should paint it because then it would take a pretty sharp insurance adjuster to recognize that it has been modified.
After the conversion you could sell your stock crash beam and get more than half of the $200 back. No down time, no waiting for a modified bumper when you are doing the conversion.
Send me an e-mail at slsssss@aol.com if youa re interested.
Thanks,
Dan
this should not cost more than 75 DOLLARS PERIOD!!!!!!
175-200 for less than 1 hour of work is outrageous. the tolerances are not that tight. i took one to a muffler shop and they grinded cut and migged in 45 minutes for 50 bucks out the door.

well said!
You can have it modified. It is not going to work like it did on a stock car though...the modifications to make it fit involve removing the energy absorbtion area.
