Security Window Films

I'm not sure if anyone has seen Security Window Laminates. I first saw them featured on a television show, To Catch a Thief. Essentially it is a very hard to penetrate film applied to home glass, that prevents someone from getting into the house. Seems to take a lot of abuse. Anyways, I couldn't help but wonder if this technology was available for cars. So I did some searching and came up with some interesting videos.

I've found a handful of manufacturers, but I was curious if anyone here has any personal experience with this type of technology on their car. I think it would be a great idea, because I feel like stopping a thief from smashing your window is a pretty good deterrent from someone getting into the car.

Anyone seen or used anything like this?

I saw the same thing.. I don't see why It wouldn't be able to be applied to car windows. Only possible problem may be it's thickness. I have never seen it in person, but wonder if it would affect the power window motors. Maybe causing them to "slip".

I think it looks like quite the upgrade. Might actually give me a real reason to tint, other than aesthetics. Anyone actually have it on their Evo? I am also concerned that the thicker film will interrupt window function.

I'm bringing back this old thread for an update.

I contacted Shades of Gray Tint (Feasterville, PA) and asked them to contact Llumar Films about this security film for automotive use. They replied that it was delayed and has not yet been released, but an update should be available in a few weeks. I'm curious if anyone else has heard about the Llumar film or anything else like it recently?

I say its not worth the extra cost. I had film on my window and they just broke the glass and pulled it out in one sheet. I'd say just do regular tint film. It will still help hold broken glass.

I just wonder, if you where in a roll-over and the doors where beaten shut or you somehow ended up under water, could you still escape the vehicle? I know it's an unlikely occurence, but it does happen.

You had the security film? Or regular tint film when this happened?

I think that would be an issue, if it really is as tough as they say. But as you said it is an unlikely problem.

Not sure what was on the window. Bought it with it on it. It was applied over in the UK. The car was imported. All I know is I came out and saw my side glass on the ground in a nice sheet. Made clean up easy though. Just had to pick it up and toss it.

Don't they show on the video of them just pushing the window out after an accident?

They do. But if there was a force outside of it, such as water, that would prevent you from pushing it out.
