Sound deadening is your friend, fyi. Especially in that rear deck if you want it to sound good.

i think the real question is how often do you track the car? i used to work at a speaker shop and we sold jl products. the 6.5 sub is nice in like a porsche cayman or 911 but you really wont get the sound your lookin for. it carries the sub frequencies but doesnt thump all that hard.

if you track the car get a good amp and like 1 10" woofer. build a custom box around it to the airspace. W3's are great subs.

and as far as not needing a box for a sub you might as well just not have one because its gonna sound terrible ive tried it.

take a speaker and sit it on the table and plug in signal wires to it. ever notice there is NO bass to it? needs an enclosure

if you track the car alot get a box in the trunk with a sub with banana clips to take the box out when you are at the track...

and sound deadening is your friend hes right but its also weight. quite a bit when you do the whole car.

just my .02

Infinite baffle subs are designed to use the trunk space as the enclosure. You have to make sure the trunk is completely sealed off from the cabin. It's not the same as just laying a woofer on a counter.

To my opinion, you will never get a great sound in an Evo but I understand people who want to forget about the crappy factory stereo!!!
Cheers!
