Is it possible to wire up an SSL with an aftermarket radio without using the converters? Could you go from the radio to the amp with out it, or is there a signal conversion going on? Also, is the sub run off the amp, or is it self powered.

Just buy the Mitah adapter and be done... plug and play, no gob of wires and no spliced stock harness...

 

+1. Its inexpensive and just not worth the hassle of doing it any other way.

And yes the sub is powered by the amp

I have the SSL along with an aftermarket headunit. Do yourself a favor and just buy the metra and mitah adapters. They are plug and play so they require no splicing.

I assume your talking about the adapters. There are many places that sell them and can be found with a simple google search. I bought my deck from crutchfield so they came for free with my deck. If you already have a deck however im sure you can just purchase the adapters separately.

i did got the Mitah adapter.. but I can't control the SSL subwoofer as before, there is no way to adjust the subwoofer sounds since there is no wire for me to plug in in the back.. ?

while the head unit works perfectly you will not have the fine tune control that you need to add that something special (bass) to the mix.

I have been tossing this around for along time. I think that I (and probably you) will eventually upgrade each piece until poof we take an 's' out of ssl.

 

I had to splice my subwoofer wire into one of the cables and that allowed me to control the subwoofer sounds. I honestly can't remember which one it was.

 

my car is a ssl but came with a sony stereo, the sub works but the rear speakers dont

 

Thats probably because the rear rca outputs on your deck are set to sub instead of rear sp full.

 

even then the rear speakers dont work. its just the fronts and sub. i wouldnt mind using those for the time being but with a real sub and head unit. i can, cant i?
