Orbital Kit and Avic-D3

-Just got in my Oribital Upper Trim to go around the double din i was originally making my own but havent had time with work so i jut bought it...what im seeing now though is that It doesnt seem to fit at all....

-Its Tight up top has gaps on the left and right along with a huge gap at the bottom....

-The way that i have the D3 held in currently is that i took off the 2 brackets from my original infinity cd player and attached them to the d3

-it seems like the orbital kit wants the headunit at the bottom of the hole not the top...

I remember seeing a post awhile ago about someone who had a d3 and it didnt look like he did any modifications to his to make it work so thats why i thought i would post. Ill try to get a picture too once i get out of work if that helps. Im just assuming that im not allowed to use to stock hardware but wanted to check up with you guys for advice before i started modifying anything.

I just did an install here yesterday on our project Evo 8 with a Orbital kit and an Eclipse headunit.

I had to change the angle of the mounting brackets on the deck for it to fit into the correct position. Otherwise it was too high to fit into the face plate or had a gap. On the Eclipse unit there was about 8 different mounting holes which allowed me to change the position of the factory brackets that I had to bolt on. Im not familiar with the D3 so I can not comment on that.

With the brackets aligned correctly the Orbital face plate slipped over the unit perfectly. There has to be some room so its not rubbing.

Thanks alot man im going to try and look at the headunit and see if their are any other holes that i could screw the brackets into because it looks like the kit wants the headunit to be held at a slant not facing straight as the old one was. IDK im going to have to look at it some more when i get out of work.

Yes that is the case as I found out yesterday. The headunit has to be slanted for it to go into the Orbital piece.

Some decks will have numerous threaded holes on the sides for situations like this. Some do but do not have enough such as possibly only having 2 standard holes on each side. Hopefully you're covered.
