First Mugen wheels on an Evo...now you want to cut up a perfectly good lightweight aluminum roof so the sun can shine on you??

Lol come on dude... it's a daily driver not a track car! Yeah I like the sun to shine on me on nice days on my HOUR FREAKIN' DRIVE home. Lol. :-) It's a car, not a thing of worship. Ok, it might be close to a thing of worship... but it's still a car :-)

 

medula bad idea! My thing is people can do what they want with their cars, but this one is getting borderline... Biggest argument I can present to you to spend your money on something else is the resale factor. Good luck finding a buyer who's willing to take your MR off your hands with a big freakin' hole in the roof! I wouldn't buy one like that... I still think to this day that Mitsubishi was stupid in offering the HID's & spoiler only in the option that included the moonroof on my '03.. lame-o.

 

I could be wrong but I think the MR roof isn't strong enough to support a sunroof. I mean it flexes under the dryers at a car wash.

 

I hear you, I hear you - but resale is not my concern. I drive 120 miles/day, and by the time I will sell the car it will have 100k+ on it. If I enjoy it for 4 or 5 years that much more, who cares? Someone will buy it to mod the hell out of after that anyway.

 

Now that could be a legitimate thought.

 

it definately isnt strong enough, i have a friend that had a mazdaspeed 3 and that was the reason that car didnt come with a sun roof.

 

nah your good do the bam margera take a zawsall to it. throw in some glass/lexan boom you got yourself a moonroof/sunroof/leak fest/. itll be sssssaweet!

Sounds like it would cost $$$$. Especially if you want it to look stockish and it won't. Not by our standards in this community. I think your money will be better spent else where. Just my $.02.

Yeah I dunno, you get a sunroof assembly/electronics from a junkyard, get a new headliner, and have one of my budies at the body shop cut the hole. I'm a professional engineer, I'm not going to do any kind of hack job, it will look factory if I do it. But I probably won't I just wanted to know if the problem really was the aluminum roof. If I have to get into reinforcing the roof, then it's not an option.

I wouldn't mind an SSL, but I don't want the L. And I doubt anyone would want to trade leather seats for IX standard seats.

 

You could always find a non-MR roof, preferably with the sunroof/moonroof in place, and replace the whole thing. Otherwise, you'd definitely have to reinforce the stock aluminum roof of the MR.
