You need 6.5" speaker plates. You can get them on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/6-Speaker-Adapte...item4a99f45d7f

I have 6 1/2 for my front and rears. I did not have to use plates. I have Alpine Type S units. I'm not sure why you are having problems. Some 6 1/2's run slightly oversized though, could be labeled a 6 3/4. Look for something like that.

I had some Image Dynamics CTX65CS's in my legacy. They were deep, not sure if they will fit in an evo. They were super clear pushing 100wrms each.

Or, leave out the rears and get a better sounding system as a result.

A surround matrix takes the common information in the 2 stereo channels, strips it of the frequency extremes, throws it out of phase, adds time delay, lowers its amplitude and only then does the sound come out of the rear speakers. That's not what happens in a car system, is it? Stereo means 2 channels.

different speakers can worth with the stock head unit correct? Im not really big into putting a "system" in my car but a little better replacement speakers would be nice.

No, not really. You'd be much better off upgrading the HU and keeping the stock speakers.

First off let me start by saying that I use to install auto systems for a living for two different big chain stores. I have over five years doing car audio and alarms. with that said I will tell you that swapping out your factory speakers with good quality speakers will help a lot with sound. but if you install the best speakers you can find with "zip ties" you may not get sound that is any better than stock and may sound worse. I have seen installs with product costing over 2,000 not sound any better than stock just because it was not installed correctly.

for a speaker to be installed correctly you need it to be mounted solid so it dont vibrate also it needs to be sealed so that the sound waves from the back of the speaker do not come around the speaker to the front side. so use spacers if the speaker dont seal to the rear deck or the door panel. you could also trim the mounting hole bigger so the speaker will fit better.

In an Evo that's moving? When the car is standing still, sure.

I think we have this part figured out.
