Do you have these installed in an Evo? Pic? Can anyone feel 100watts (watever that means in a vacuum) while the car's low-frequency output runs at a higher amplitude? Please explain how such a thing is possible.

Regardless of what size sub you use, your ideal frequency will be 30-70hz, which a 6.5" kicker or 12" kicker will be able to produce.
I'm not sure exactly where to begin. Let's start with the drivers that couldn't reproduce a 30Hz tone (with a reasonable amount of distortion, no doubling its subharmonics, etc) if its life depended on it. Then, there's the car whose emissions run in the 50-10Hz range with varying degrees of phase shift, effectively canceling out anything below that point. Whatever is left makes the rest of the spectrum sound like mud, which is why it's better roll-off the LF at ~45Hz @ 24dB/octave. The system sounds better in every way imaginable and actually has more perceived low-end response.

In a free air app, you're probably right, you probably won't hear it, but in a enclosed box I don't see it being drowned out by the exhaust.
There is no "probably." I've done the legwork; this isn't a guess.

Ok you're giving very detailed responses, which is great feedback, but what exactly are you arguing?

That a 6.5" sub will not be powerful enough or that it will not produce you're desired freq?

Does your legwork involve exp. with 6.5" subs?

You won't even hear it in a moving Evo. It might as well not be there.

<sigh> Yes, otherwise I wouldn't be talking about it.

You have to decide how much weight you're willing to add and how much space you can give up. I can suggest a sub that will pound you like a pinata, but it will add ~45lbs to the car and take a substantial portion of the trunk. It's not expensive, it's not audio-jewelry. It's actually fairly mundane, but it does mesh unusually well with the car, itself, with just a little tuning.

The negatives are few, but they are important. I mean, besides the weight and the space. The car's structural rigidity will be regularly tested. The rerview mirror will shake, as will the sideview mirrors, the quarter panels will flex somewhat visibly. Everything that can vibrate will, and in turn bring about additional buzzes and rattles. This will happen for only one reason - the noise. The sub has to play extremely loud to overcome the noise of the car. We deal with that by rolling it off where it can't compete, but what is left still has to make it to the listener with a reasonable degree of physical impact. That's a lot of air being moved.

There's another option and it involves an underseat sub. I haven't done it, but I'm trying to, if I can find someone I like to build me an enclosure. In theory, it should provide enough low-frequency reinforcement at the listening seat to fill out the music and give an illusion of a "big sound," if you will. Can't say any more than that until I can actually hear the thing.

I know kenwood makes a small enclosure amp thing with a 5x7 with a passive radiator, i wonder if that would fit. My only other idea was to fiberglass in the spare tire well.

We have ~8.25" max width under the seat, so that should give you an idea. I had a chance to audition a similar Boss (gasp) unit in another car. It sounded like a distortion generator.

My only other idea was to fiberglass in the spare tire well.
Have you consolidated the fiberglass enclosures made specifically to fit into the corners of our trunks? It's a very nice cosmetic solution, but you'll still encounter the issues I described. The only thing I can suggest is to look for the most sensitive driver you can find. FWIW, this leaves out the bulk of car audio staples.

Truth be told, I'd love to use a similar solution, but the corner enclosure won't fit with my trunk cage and it's far more important to me than the sub.

I've seen those enclosures, i just think they would look out of place in my stripped trunk.

i figured if i fiberglassed in the spare tire well, i could make a trim panel the finish the trunk and make it look pretty factory. it also wouldn't get in the way of the rear strut tower bar.

JL Audio's 6W3v3 is a pretty good sub although it a 6 inch sub and takes 150 watts, two of them hooked up properly could do the trick. If not the 8W7 will definately do the trick. In a sealed box, it will hit like a 12" woofer. You will definately not drown out that sub!!!

We have two options - work with the car, or try to overpower the car. The choice depends on how much you hate your Evo.

I've never used them in an Evo, but I've used them with amazing success in other vehicles. Mostly to replace mid range components, but they are awesome if you tie them in with some nice coaxials and a sub.
