Does anyone want to build a small enclosure?
I'm looking to have someone build me a very small enclosure - 3.25" x 8" x 15.5" - out of 3/8" MDF or perhaps an even thinner more rigid material. I'd like to have it carpeted in black, as well. Please let me know and we can discuss the details.
Dustin from dldesignz.com built the box. I haven't seen it yet. He's waiting for a small terminal cup and then the enclosure should ship. The Earthquake driver may arrive later today. I'll start a new thread once everything is installed.
I hope to have the enclosure in my hands on Wednesday with Friday being the tentative install date. Got the Earthquake driver last week; the thing almost looks like a Frisbee. The Arc amp arrived, as well. I'm also going to try and fit an Alpine changer into the glovebox.

<grin> Years ago I had a job a part of which involved developing custom configs for Palm Pilots. Of course I had a Palm of my own. Whenever I had to note an appointment, etc I'd write it down in a piece of paper. Folks often asked why I didn't use the Palm. It was because writing it down was faster, easier, and there was no need to struggle with a virtual keyboard on a small screeen. Same concept applies above.

my musical selection is all over the place too. i like how my 9886 have separate Ipod and USB inputs. i have my Ipod and a 16Gb jump drive plugged in. Dragging and dropping onto the jump drive is easier then trying to cram alot of high bit rate stuff onto a cd.
So what do you do when you buy a new record or two or seven? You have to bring it home, load it onto an alternate storage device and then listen to it. I don't see the benefit. The only positive is the small physical size.
Or, one can just take a CD (I mean the actual recording) and play it - instant gratification, music of choice on demand. Kinda like writing down a phone number instead of going through several screens to hit the right folder. Technology is great if it manages to makes life easier. I have an ipod cable hooked into an Alpine 102. By the time I find a title in a 80GB ipod, the CD is already playing.
Don't get me wrong; I love ipods. There's a time and a place for everything. In this particular application, I don't see how an ipod makes sense at all. OTOH, for a user with an alternate preference structure and lower propensity to vary the selection, a relatively static solution may be better.

On the rare occasion tht i actually buy a cd, i just throw it in. I usually just download everything. I do not like the menu set up on the USB side, I like how i can search and jump through the Ipod list. You are way more of an audiophile than me. I personally think using lossless recording in a car like ours is pointless. 320Kbps is good enough for me in the car.
