Polishing ARC Titanium shift knob?
Polishing ARC Titanium shift knob?
Hey guys, I was wondering if it was possible to polish the TI knob and retain the "burnt" look. I ask this because I don't know the process that it takes to achieve the look.(anodization, physical heat, idk. ) I'm gonna place my bets on anodization. But I don't want to polish a 150$ knob and find out its gonna make it silver.
So is there anybody that could share some insight on this? Will I lose my "burn"?
Haha, thanks in advance.

From my experience with burned exhaust tips, yes, you will lose the color on the knob if you polish it. You should be able to burn the knob fairly easily, either with a torch or using electricity, but if you want to avoid the work then don't polish the knob. I'm not sure if ARC knobs are clear coated over the burn though, so maybe it won't be an issue. I'm sure someone else with one of these knobs can chime in. Good luck!
Yeah they are physically burnt ti. When my ARC got a little hazy, I'd just clean it with some interior detail spray and a microfiber cloth. If you park your car outside on a nice sunny day, you'll see the ARC colors get a little more vibrant from the heat.
Interesting, I always thought it was some sort of finish. Either way I suppose polishing is out of the question. Or I'd have to re-burn it. Thanks guys! I think you answered my question.

Np brO cuz when I wanted to buy mine I couldn't decide which one to get glossy(polished) or non glossy and to me I'm not that kind of person who likes shiny things too much so the non glossy one was perfect for my liking
Its not necessarily that I want it shiny, its more to change it up. But then again, I've only had it during the cold months. So I haven't really seen it in 90 degree sun. I donno, we shall see.
Yeah metal polish will take the burnt finish off of the shift knob. Can re burn it with a torch however once you polish it up. Not too hard to do with a MAP gas or acetylene torch.
