I have thought of this. I do have the ssl, but I feel with a nicer headunit, it might sound 100x better still.

well i never opted for the ssl package on my 8 gsr, im currently using a pioneer F series double din unit. its alright to my liking but i think the fronts might have went out just not as good as they used to be. i might decide on upgrading to some pioneer components soon. but has anyone actually had these stock mitsu speakers go out on them or just blow out?

Im still on stock speakers but an aftermarket headunit so they sound better. I used to have an 03 lancer and upgraded the speakers all around but it was a pain since you have to take off the whole door panel so im just too lazy to go through that again.

I'm sure that people have. It wouldn't take much to blow them.

FWIW, I run the stock speakers in sealed/deadened doors and I've written quite a bit about audio is our cars. Take a look at my past threads on this forum. Good luck.

I have stock speakers on my 8 and it seems like the front speakers don't like certain songs or something. Sounds pretty good most of the time but every once in a while I'll get slight crackling and the pitch of the song seems a little off. Usually goes away when I mess with the head unit and toggle though the classic, rock, pop outputs etc. but I'd still like to upgrade and get a cleaner sound all the time.

Heh, your problem stems from playing with the EQ, boosting/limiting various frequencies at will. The crackling is a very bad sign. Turn the volume down when you hear it, or just don't boost the bass as much. I mean, there are physical limits.

Yes, the deck is the biggest bottleneck next to the car, itself.

well the stock ones in my car sounds alright for what they are. i mean i've owned the car for already 6 years. so as i said in my prior post i think it might be time for some brand new all around pioneer speakers. i dont mess with the big subwoofers anymore, that just brings negative attention. last time while owning 2 12 inch pioneer IMPP subs someone tryed breaking in my stratus back in the day. soo yea no subs in the evo.

Just replace the speakers all together, maybe not a sub but new speakers definitely add better quality.
