Car Audio

I just picked up a IX and was wondering do all the Evo's come with garbage stock speakers? I mean I have owned my fair share of toys in my day and I just have never owned anything that sounded so badly? Any who I am looking to just throw something in there so I can actually make out the words in the music, any recommendations out there? What is a subtle set up that you guys are using? I am not wanting subs and all that jazz just a decent deck and speakers. Thanks for the help

Not only are your comments wildly exaggerated, you posted in the wrong section.

Wrong section...but yeah do you just have the stock headunit? Getting an new headunit will make a huge difference, but if you're like me you'll blow your speakers out fast lol. For speakers you can't go wrong with Alpine, Pioneer, or even Infinity, and an amp just makes everything better.

Well if a moderator would be ever so kind to move it, I would appreciate it. And please come to Ohio and listen for yourself. Don't make accusations that I am exaggerating when you yourself have no idea what you are talking about. It is a very simple thread asking for recommendations not for some internet troll to assert his vast knowledge of every single evo on the planet. Thanks

Thank you for the advice, yes I still have the factory stereo. I will begin with upgrading that, most likely an Alpine deck.

Wow, I didn't think it was that bad. I thought the stock stereo was pretty good

Do you have a short antenna or the stock one?

Haha I don't know maybe I am just being sensitive or maybe the speakers in it are blown and I haven't realized it! It has the stock antenna on it still, does that affect the quality?

I was running an alpine deck through the stock speakers and amp for awhile and it vastly improved sound quality. Upgraded to some rockford punch series 5 1/4's in front and rear and it sounds even better now. Still using factory amp and sub...

It's definitely no BMW when it comes to sound quality but I think it is still pretty decent. I didn't know if maybe you were talking about radio quality, the stock antenna works best for radio compared to a short antenna.

FWIW, stock BMW radios are absolute garbage as well, so that's not saying very much.

Oh gotchya, yeah I figured it wasn't going to be anything crazy good, I just literally can only hear treble right now and have to turn it up to 30+ to hear anything. Sounds like it is the head unit causing all the issues for now. I appreciate all the information.

My moms 07' 335i sounded great and my dads 08' M3 sounded great. Both had the premium sound systems.

there are evos that came with a sun, sound and leather package which is an upgraded 300w infinity sound system. you can probably find a setup in the for sale threads for a good price.

My 2012 X5 is semi decent (BMW upgraded it this year), but I drove a 2011 model with the base radio and its as bad as my Evo. My wife's Z4 was so bad we had the car for about a month before we dropped it off at ABT to have a new system put in. My brother in law's e46 M3 wasn't that great either. He upgraded his as soon as he heard the aftermarket unit we got in my wife's z4.

The sound in my CTS-V was pretty good, all I had to add was a sub/amp combo.
