I chemically removed the chrome from the rear emblem. I'm ready to paint it now but I don't know what to do with it just yet. I was thinking about painting it bright brembo red, with clearcoat on top. Maybe I'll paint it silver.
The small brownish specs on the top are residue of copper from the plating behind the chrome. I'm going to get those off chemically too, but I'm happy with how it looks so far. The plating also seems to be thicker in the middle because of how the electric flux attracted the chrome here. On the back there is some residue I have to work on still, but there won't be paint back here so I'm not really worried about it as much.
Why de-chrome it you ask? I don't like the idea of painting on the top of the chrome, because it won't hold up as good. When you remove the chrome you can treat the plastic for painting and get adhesion with the paint as good as it would be if it were painted this way from the factory.
Basically I'm looking for ideas. This will be going on a gray car.
I was thinking I might go with the red, and then cut 3 little diamonds out of carbon-fiber look-alike sticker to cover the flat portion (not the side edges) of the emblem. I'd then clearcoat over the whole thing to make it look a little more like real carbon fiber with a red substrate behind it. I'm not sure what carbon fiber style stickering to go with. I definitely want something that's been tested and won't whiten or yellow with exposure to sunlight, uv etc..

honestly there isn't to many different ideas if you think about it, its either chrome stock look, or the older evos and mitsus had Red emblems, i've seen carbon fiber done for years but thats not original either.
the only other thing i have seen which only a few people had them were the burnt looking mitsu emblems. id love to see a black chrome emblem but no one has done that yet.
