If you guys are looking to add a sub for playing music, have you considered an underseat option? There are a lot of issues (audio-wise) with putting the sub into the trunk of an Evo with the expectation of much improved sound quality. They're mainly driven by the low-frequency emissions from the car, itself.
I have underseat subs, about to get rid of them probably, shallow 10's just dont hit low enough for me
Underseat subs are a good choice though for some stealth bass, and to surprise some people when they are in the front seat haha

I beg to differ actually. You can have good bass in a moving Evo. From the previous set ups i have ran, i can attest to that. I was just trying something new with under the seat to see how it would be.
He's looking for a "good sub add on" hence the name of the thread. Yes, under seat subs are good for just that. I say "stealth bass" because it is an add on to the music you will be listening to and it is hidden from view.
Also, we are two different people so our preferences in music are probably nothing alike, same goes for the OP. I'm just giving my opinion, it all depends on the experience he wants to get from his music

You said "low enough." I know what low bass means and what it takes to get there. "Good bass?" only you know what that means.
This being said, there are two ways to go about this: work with the car or try to overpower the car. The latter is certainly possible and much easier to achieve - though trying to go low when the Evo is moving is a physical impossibility - but to what end? I guess you get to say that you have a big sub in the trunk.
FWIW, in audio, low bass is defined as frequencies below 40Hz.
What else is sub supposed to do, other than enhance playing music and stay hidden from view?
Audio doesn't care about one's taste in music.

Yea "good" is preference, i do mean low.
My solution to overcoming the cars emissions were to sludge the majority of the floor and then deadened the trunk slightly. You dont necessarily need "big", a 10" sub with a box around one cubic foot would be all you need.
Back to the topic. I would recommend under seat subs for ya cmross13. Problem is that you cant buy a box like that so it would have to be custom built. There are many shallow sub options on the market, http://www.woofersetc.com/c-120-shal...ubwoofers.aspx , you need to keep in mind mounting depth though, from what i remember to not hit the seats on max excursion, you will have about 3.5 inches of height when you cut the carpet.

No. Just no. This is exactly the kind of thing, posted on forums, that leads folks to do ridiculous things to theirs cars. What you've described, assuming it was done in the best possible manner using the best possible materials applied in the most intelligent fashion, can lead to lower panel resonance. It is not sound insulation, nor would such a process have much of an effect on low frequencies in this instance. Not when the car is moving. Not when the entire surface isn't sealed. It can reduce creeks and groans from the chassis and the sheetmetal, however, and possibly (in a perfect world) extend bass response in a car that's standing still and only standing still. This is a technical forum. What you're asserting is, in essence, a physical impossibility.

thanks for all the input. i'll probably wind up buying the Wicked single sub enclosure and tossing a Cerwin Vega VMax 12" in it, since it calls for a 1.0 cu/ft sealed enclosure and i already have a JL 500/1 amp that would power it.
