Evo IX Instrument Cluster gauges aren't reading.

Good morning all,

I've been having issues with my instrument cluster, any help will be much appreciated. The lights work (dimmer doesn't as I bypassed it from the switch), however none of my gauges are working, including the odometer.

I had the infamous ETACS ECU failure, with the horn, lights, rear wiper issue. I changed out the ETACS and it works fine. I figured the Needle meters ran somewhere along the ETACS unit, as one of the electrical drawing kind of looks that way, however no dice. The ETACS issues are fixed, cluster isn't.

Any ideas? I've been thinking of getting another cluster, however if I can save this one I'll try that first.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Have you been to the backside to make sure the plugs are tight in their sockets.

Yes sir, I've checked the pins and Jack's on both connectors and they seem fine; no corrosion nor frayed cables. I've seen a diagram that is pointing to a combination meter, which controls all of the gauges, however I'm having trouble tracking that down.

I might end up just getting a used cluster to see if mine just gave out. Seems a bit odd though.

I just wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this problem. I've read the forums on the dimmer and lights issue, but it doesn't say anything regarding the actual gauges and odometer. The only thing much cluster does is light up, other than that it's useless since nothing else on it works.

Lol, the combination meter is just another term for the instrument cluster.

Disconnect the battery and pull the left plug on the back of the cluster. Reconnect the battery and check pin 7 in the connector for battery voltage. Then turn the key on and check pin 9 in the connector for battery voltage. Don't plug the connector back in before disconnecting the battery.

Lmao, thanks for the clarification brother. I was looking at the diagram and was getting frustrated haha.

I'll give that a shot as soon as I can and post any updates.

Thank you!

I now realize I am looking at a diagram for an 8 and you have a 9. Probably the same but if not you need to check the pin out for your 9.

Yea, it has the ACD display so I'm sure some of the pins might slightly differ from the Evo VIII. I don't think it'll be too much of a difference but I'll take a look.

I'll Google the diagram later on and check it out. Thanks again!
