original post:
I plan to make a video comparing (almost?) all the CT9A options, but i need some education. Please share your knowledge.
Tail Light options that i know of: USDM:
EVO 8 - Shiny chrome look, clear turn markers
EVO 9 - black chrome look, clear turn markers
JDM:
EVO 7 - Red tint look, clear turn makers with red lines
EVO 7 GTA - Chrome look, clear turn markers with black lines
EVO 8 non MR - shiny black chrome look, orange turn markers
EVO 8 MR - flat(satin) black look, orange turn markers
EVO 9 - shiny black chrome look, orange turn markers
Q1: I'm not sure, never seen those.
Q2: I believe so.
Q3: Only one I can think of are the EDM (Euro non-UK) tails. Same as JDM but with the integrated rear fog (red) located in place of one reverse lamp, always on the driver's side assembly.
EUDM (LHD)
Evolution VII: MR954213/MR954214
Evolution VIII: MR954977 (for some reason there is no right hand side part number)
EUDM (RHD)
Evolution VII: MR954213/MR954214
Evolution VIII: (For some reason there is no left hand side part number)/MR954978
Taking a break, I'll come back to this later in a post edit.
Very helpful. Now it needs to be simplified. Are any of the EUDM lights actually different (design wise) than any of the ones i already have? Look similar to JDM 8's but with an orange inner circle? or and empunker stated, did they swap a fog light in place of reverse light?
Added what reference photos I could find to my previous post. For the pedantic, even though there appears to be only a few common designs per generation of the CT9A platform there are part number changes as well as specific part numbers for different markets, likely driven by local vehicle engineering requirements:
Broad categories:
Evolution VII: Red covers over red lenses set in red buckets, EUDM cars depending on LHD/RHD get the reverse lamp on one side replaced with a fog lamp. Indicators are clear. There are no USDM cars for this generation.
Evolution VII GTA: Clear covers over red lenses set in chrome buckets, indicators are clear. JDM only.
Evolution VIII: Similar to VII GTA, however covers for indicators are now orange. USDM resemble the GTA buckets but lack line detailing over the indicators as pointed out above. EUDM cars depending on LHD/RHD get the reverse lamp on one side replaced with a fog lamp.
Evolution VIII MR: Clear covers over red lenses set in matte black buckets, covers for indicators are now orange. I don't think USDM got this specification(?). EUDM cars depending on LHD/RHD get the reverse lamp on one side replaced with a fog lamp.
Evolution IX: Clear covers over red lenses set in chrome black buckets, covers for indicators are now orange. EUDM cars depending on LHD/RHD get the reverse lamp on one side replaced with a fog lamp. USDM cars have clear indicator covers.
For the OP, your collection is pretty comprehensive except that you're lacking the EUDM RHD/LHD fog lamp versions of each generation.
Geeking out a bit today. These babies took a month to ship, but totally worth it!
Now i just need JDM MR 8 tails and JDM 9's and I will make my video!
I always felt like there was something odd about the look of the EDM tail lights, but never put my finger on it until I saw your video. There's a fog light there!
Also, I only just noticed the difference between headlight lenses for USDM and other markets too, the orange part of the lens seems to have been relocated for the USDM market.
Thanks for your video, Paul, I enjoy the detailed look into how the lighting on an evo changed over time. I feel like its not healthy to be THAT interested in car parts but I'm right there, too, I love that stuff.
But, it took about $2500 to buy all the tails in the video. They have all been sold and i got almost all my money back. Only reason i did not get all my money back is i paid $550 for the pair of JDM 9's (New) and chipped a corner while filming. So, money lost no matter what when that happens. But the chip doesn't bother me, so I now run the JDM 9s on my evo.
Hey, I'm thinking on buying EDM tails, by any chance you know more about wiring, switch? On the X, its built on the fog ring, you have to activate it twice, so its a different wiring.
