Ignition Switch - Crank No Start

I’m new to forums, my 2004 Evo 8 has always had an issue with starting, you would have to turn the key all the way on and then hit underneath the steering column for it to crank. Recently It started getting bad and not starting every time. Ruled it down to the ignition switch, so I pulled the steering column area apart, checked all of the wires and connections, all was good, so I replaced the ignition switch with a new one, now it cranks every time, like it should, but does not start.

I replaced the battery in my key
i tried an extra ignition switch I had laying around

I heard the immobilizers are built into the ignition lock cylinder so I have ruled that out

i don’t know what could have gone wrong, I’ve only touched the ignition switch and nothing else so it must be something in this area.

You could try putting the old ignition switch back in and see if the problem of not starting is fixed.
I am not sure what could have happened to have it crank and not start with the new one though, hopefully someone else can chime in.

When I had a similar issue, I just loosened the ignition switch and rotated clockwise as far as it would go, tighten it down and zip tied it up to the steering column to avoid the no crank issue in the future.
