I realized that I've never actually tried the high beams in my Evo 5 when i was cleaning my car this morning, so i got in and hit what i thought would be the high beam by pulling back the stalk and all it did with turn the low beams on and off. There was also no high beam indicator on the dash.

I had a close up look at the headlights when cleaning the outside and realized there is only 1 bulb in the housing (the HID low beam, from what I can gather with the ballast box behind it inside the engine bay) and a tiny side light in the corner of the housing.

So did the Evo 5 never come with high beams? (maybe its meant to be a dual functioning bulb for the low beam which is broken on mine?)

 

The EVO 5 should use a Halogen H4 bulb with 2 filaments (for high and lo beam).
Sounds like someone has retrofitted a HID kit, but not done anything for the high beam.
