Hi Evo 5 nutter!
I use an HKS Hyper Muffler with GT extension kit on my TME (some more details in the Registry). It is a very high quality kit, especially the GT ext kit and the back box. I dont like the part of the muffler that goes from the box to the decat, looks like OEM. Very nice, present, throaty sound when idling, normal only louder when revving up.
I dont know the price for it, but I quite like the PE downpipe (i think it is only one piece for turbo elbow and downpipe!). Muffler wise I would go for Blitz because it is all SS and takes a more direct route. Or maybe one of those Japanese titanium Hayabusa things.

Yes, so be nice or I kick you out
Just kidding!
In fact, I only moderate the Suspension brakes and wheels section. You can see that when you click on "Enter the Forums" and look at who moderates what. Basically just making sure people dont post false info in there or get the forum wrong (in which case I'll move the thread to the right forum).
How come the Evo 5 is still standard, Evo5Nutter?

claudius i've just after buying the car a couple of weeks ago. it came completely standard, so i think its time to start tuning, i have a couple of parts on order from england at the moment. like hks induction kit,hks dump valve and 18in wheels.
just asking for the sites opinions on a suitable exhaust system,i know there is alot of parts out there and by asking people who have a liking for the evo and drive them, i thought it would be a good place to ask.
just out of interest claudius, i hear your the man in the know about suspensions, i want to uprate the suspension, what should i go for?
thanks

Hi Evo5Nutter
Who was driving your car before you? Do you think he kept it std or just put the std parts back on for you?
Anyway, I think you should listen to Okitenik here, he knows all the lightweight Jap exhausts.
As for suspensions, you should indeed be talking to me.
It all depends on what you need / want and how much you are willing or able to spend. I recommend Öhlins, Proflex or Dynamic suspensions for hard use, ie. bumpy streets or track use. These will never become spongy (see in the FAQ about suspensions, twin tube vs. monotube) and resist to any abuse you can imagine. If you just need a lower better handling car and will not use it hard for longer periods, you could do with good twin tubes. I might be able to get you a set of those for a good price from a rallye team I know.
I might still have a set of proper Dynamics for sale (just upgraded for custom Öhlins). The guy who bought them might not have the money (he told me to use his cheque on the 20th only but now keeps talking about later, just got a kid, bla bla...)
Let me know what you need, I might be able to help you. Feel free to email or chat.

PS: the FAQ will be online very soon, but might not yet be when you try to read it.

claudius,
i bought the car straight from the docks a couple of days after it arrived from japan. i knew by looking at it it was standard, im a service advisor for opel and a friend of mine is a mechanic, he works for a mitsubishi dealership, he came along with me to have a check over the car before i bought it, everything was in good shape, no sign of accident damage or messing around with any parts!!!!!!!!!
im still waiting on my order to arrive from england, hopefully before xmas its here, after that i'll see what my situation is with uprating the suspension. thanks for your offer on the parts but i wont discuss anything about them untill i think what to do with the suspension setup.
thanks

to explain about the import situation................
cars dstined for the uk have to come into ireland before being sent to england,i dont know if this law is still here because in the last few months the grey import trade has died off,so you would'nt see many cars down in dublin docks ,except for performance stuff. ireland is flooded with grey import jap cars.there everywhere.
many of the companies in england source the cars in japan, but they still have to come through ireland.
im getting 18x8.5 khan rs-r wheels.
its a tight squeeze alright, thinking about getting the recaro seats that
are in the evo 6 xtreme.

Question:
Well I've heard the sound of the WRX's and the STi's and they sound pretty nice being that they are powered by that nifty EJ motor. They sound pretty nice, especially with a nice scooby sport muffler etc.. on them.
Now in comparision to the EVO's sounds.. which I havent' ever got to hear.. maybe they have sounds in the sound file area of the site ( I have yet to explore the whole site yet), but how is it? Is it whinny like a honda (no disrespectin ment here.. I'm a current honda owner
)
I'm just wondering becasue aren't the motor similar to the eclipse motors? If so I would think they would be kinda noisy (whinny) in comparision to the WRX's? Thanks for the info guys.

Fresno: Being in US, I've not heard a LanEvo in person, but they won't sound like a Honda. Since the Evo is turbo'ed, the exhaust will have a different character to it. It's an inline 4, not an opposed 4, so it won't sound like a Subaru either.
Here's a clip of an Evo w/ a blitz exhaust installed. That's the only clip we have so far.

It's got a pretty deep tone compared to a Honda and once the turbo spools up... forget about it
