How Would You Spend $8,000 on an RS?
I'm new to the EVO community. I just bought my '04 RS yesterday. I bought it primarily for racetrack use (road courses, open track days, HPDE, etc.), but will drive it on the street and need to try to keep it California street legal.
I spent a ton of $$$ modding my last track car, a 350Z, so I'm not new to the tuning scene. If you had a new RS and $8,000 to spend modding it, what would you get? Try to include labor in your cost estimates, since I am not a mechanic and will have to hire someone to install the go-fast parts.
I am primarily interested in upgrading the turbo for high wheel hp, and the suspension. I would also like a carbon fiber rear wing.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Vishnu Stage 3
This thread talks about it a bit

Or maybe just a Vishnu Stage 1+ with the addition of coilovers, wheels, and tires

With $8000, you can do some serious damage. I would clean up the suspension/brakes first. Vishnu has had great success with the Ohlins coliovers. They're expensive, but worth it from the results they are seeing. The JIC setup with RRE setting seems to work really well too, but apparently the Ohlins ride better. The Brembos are great from the factory. Better pads like Ferodo DS2500's and Goodridge brake lines should be all you need. Maybe brake air-cooling guides.
makes a set you can get from the dealer.
The engine realy opens up with some basic mods. You will need an uprated clutch to handle the power though. I would suggest parts equivalent to the Vishnu Stage 1+ and the Evo 6.5 TME turbo. It has a titanium compressor wheel and a bigger 10.5 housing. Maybe a bigger intercooler and better IC pipes. With those mods and proper engine management (I like the UTEC, just don't have the $ to buy one yet), you should hit close to 400 whp on race gas, and still meet your budget.

Turboback exhaust, intake, boost control, injectors, fuel pump, FMIC, cams, cam gears, AEM EMS, and turbo kit of your choice.
Don't forget all your suspension, wheel, and tire work first.

1) get some Ohlins... by far the best coilovers I have used to date...
2) Since you not mechanically inclined, try a tuner package. I would go with Vishnu since they have more experiance with tuning to CA crap gas.
3) Get the lightest weight rims you can afford (with $8k you should be able to get some volks or something super light, try going to http://www.gruppe-s.com )
4) brakes.... you might try upgrading the pads, you can search the forums for the different brand reviews.
have fun!

Which is what I meant by "don't forget all you wheel tire and suspension work first." As in that he might not have the left over for all that after wheels suspension and tires.
Other than that, most of those power mods I listed will fit in the 8k range without the turbo kit.
