I'm doing the same thing

I'm waiting on my 2005 RS to come in. (hopefully next week) Here is my list. This is mostly for track days.

1) Coilovers - JIC by RRE or Ohlins from Brits, - JIC works out to be a bit cheaper, Ohlins ride a bit better. (2150+)

2) Rear swaybar - Cusco or RRE (220)

3) Brake pads - already ordered Hawk ht10's for all four wheels (300)

4) Wheels - 5zigen 17x9 ($215) + 275/40/17 Kumho Victoracer - shortest 275 tire -requires fender rolling but who cares - its a track car (1580)+ 200 fenders?

5) Sell stock seats and pick up a set of Sparco race seats (1500-1000 =500)

6) Buschur stage 3 + fuel pump tuned for road racing and 91 octane - Only run 17-18psi at the track (3500)

7) maybe - Autopower rollbar (400)

8) upgrade oil cooler with a Mocal and use an aluminum radiator (Koyo) (600)

that about spends your budget. Fyi I'm in Northern California and have been racing Sports Racers. Looks like I might be moving to Southern Ca, so maybe I'll see you at the track.

Bill Lackey

Other things to consider -

Vortex generator
Wing
Splitter
2 piece brake rotors
Buschur 440 turbo kit

to be honest, 8g wont take you too far.
suspension first- decent coilovers around 2000
wheels + r tires=1500-3000
rear swaybar around 200
semi track pads Ferodo2500-180 or race pad with a set of extra front rotors- 600
now you have only $2000-3000 left to work on your motor.

With ~$2000 in parts I have gone low 12's. And this is without a good launch and short shifting every gear.

low 12 is possible with stock turbo and basic boltons, but his big turbo set up is out of the question. Plus he still need money for clutch and more r compound down the road lol.

Although this is your second thread on this subject, I'll post again. Keep some goals in mind, if you want to road race the car don't spend your money on a turbokit. By the time you have it installed and do all the supporting modifications you'll be out of money. Turbo lag is not your friend on a racetrack, especially if you aren't very experienced with driving turbo cars around a racetrack.

One more time: Drive to Road Race Engineering
JIC FLTA2 Coilovers(Spring-rates to suit your experience and goals)
-They will align and corner-weight your car
Complete set of Energy Suspension Bushings
Railiart Rear Strut Bar (Solid with no pivots)
RRE Rear Sway Bar
Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Performance Friction Brake Pads 97 Compound
Motul Brake Fluid
Koyo Alluminum Radiator
Samco Radiator Hoses
Buschur 3In Turboback Exhaust
Buschur Intercooler Kit with Upper Piping and Mini-Battery
Buschur 3Intake
APexi SAFC-2
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
Cusco Twin-Plate Clutch
Wheels with Toyo RA1 Tires

Additional Funds:
3In 02 Housing
10.5CM Turbo Exhaust Housing
AEM EMS with Speed Density Conversion
Stop-Tech Front and Rear Brake Upgrade
HKS 272 Camshafts
Buschur Springs and Retainers
ARP Head-Studs

Honestly, I would first drop the tranny and clutch, send off the tranny to Sheppard Racing to do a full race rebuild, and get a twin disc carbon to carbon clutch. With labor this might set you back around 4 grand total after its all done.

After that I would look at adding power to the car.

Cams, Eng Management, Full Exhaust, Ex. Header, Throttle Body, Turbo Outlet, IC Hardpiping.

I would try to go far as you can with the stock 16g turbo and IC, but that is just me.

Well that's a lot of different opinions, and I thank you all for the advice.

While I can appreciate the importance of lowering unsprung weight, volk wheels are a fairly expensive mod and are not a top priority. I am going to the track this weekend and running on the stock Advans and Enkeis (does anyone know how much one of those stock 17" Enkei wheels weighs, without a tire?). If I feel disatisfied after trying them out, I will need better competition tires, so another set of wheels is a must. But I hope to defer that.

Coil overs and sway bars (someone mentioned just the rear bar, why not both?) are a priority. I had Tein flex with EDFC in my 350Z, but you guys seem to be recommending Ohlins or JIC (RRE). I'll take your word for it.

Next priority is more power. If the suspension work costs $2,500+, I have only $5,500 left to upgrade the engine/turbo and the clutch. How much is a stonger clutch, and with what I have left after getting that, what should I do to the engine?

Thanks again.

get some ssr competition wheels. they are super light and not too expensive.

btw, check out tire rack to see the wheels. you can look at em on your car and see what you think.

And don't forget labor, clutch labor is probably around $500.

Your first mod should be safety of course!

8 Point Safety cage from reputable shop.
Racing seats
5 Racing harness
Fire extinguisher

I specifically installed these in my 02 Evo RS RHD

SCCA legal cage
Sparco Pro 2000 seats
Willans Harnesses
Halon extinguisher

This will eat up roughly 2/3 of your budget, but it's a lot cheaper than your hospital bills!

Not street legal though!

Take care.
