stock valve springs/retainers

ive had my hks 264/264 cams in for about two weeks now, still using stock valve spring/reatainers. with the works p2 flash that i currently have im able to redline at 8000 rpms. is it safe for me to take my car all the way to 8000 on stock valve springs and w/o a fuel management system yet?

i heard you could take it up to 7800 rpms safely but IMO that's risking it. If your going to rev high, make sure you actually make power up there.

Yeah I would bet your losing power past 7200 or so. I don't think you need them. I hope you installed head studs when you had the cams done?

You can do 8000 rpms on the stock springs but make sure your car is tuned for it. I do 8000 all day on the stock head but in my case everything else has been done.

Are you on the stock turbo still? If so, there is no reason to spin the car to 8K. Your turbo is falling on its face way before then.

You guys should be worried about the stresses on the bottom end instead of the top

Valve float is just above 8k so you are really in the danger zone @8k also you have the wrong cams for that rpm. You will find out where to set your rev limit when you do your dyno tune. Hey Megatron, I was raised in Colma and had my head and engine ("70" LT1 in a 60 Vette) work done down at Champion, TRW, Sanderson, and Ted Gotelli's.

i do have buschur valve springs and retainers and arp head studs, just not yet installed. for the mean time while my car isn't tuned yet how far can i push it in terms of redlining. im going to run my car at the track (1/4 drag) next week just to see how well i do as is. then see the improvements after i tune it. where should i be shifting gears at?

I make power Right up to 8000 and even past it. The stock Turbo can hold till 8000, or atleast mine does. I DO run 272's BTW but 264's should rev that high.

Stock Springs and Retainers. The stock car revs to 7600, and the only reasons it dose not rev Higher is because the stock cams can't flow it. My car is fine.

Stock retainers interfere with the valve stem seals with any cam larger than stock. This will add to oil consumption issues and weaken the seal. Some/many aftermarket springs and retainers have the same problem. We have engineered an Evo specific spring and steel retainer package that has a lighter moving mass than the OEM and aftermarket Titanium kits. Our spring design is good for revs above 9000 and up to 12mm+ of lift.

Testing a few cars now in various configuratins - results soon. We are going to sell the Revolver springs and retainers seperately as well for about $205.00
