the brand for the coilpack i bought is Berg Warner.

Is that any good. I can't afford OEM guys

it's 90 bucks as it is from Oreilys.

I do have stock plugs, however they are gapped at .035.

Thanks,
Trung

I will call danny tomorrow.

I know, it's weird.

When I put in the 93 Octane (nonethanol) from IL, that's when the problem started (well, about 1.4 hours later of driving on the highway).

I've only been using iowa gas (92 ethanol).

But the problem is still there.

I'm doing to do the coils and see if that helps.

Thanks,
Trung

.035 gap is ok.. Pretty typical gap for a stock coil'ed turbo car.. Although defective or malfunctioning ignitors can cause all sorts of problems, I'm really surprised it would cause THAT much issue.

However, Borg Warner coils are OEM for that car, so you should be ok.

Still, check your bulkhead connector, wiring harness connections from the ECU (make sure all the pins are seated) same for the engine cluster harness (the one that all the sensors connect to)

Anyway, I can't disagree with the coil theory.. When you have defective coils that use ignitors, there can be a "Feedback" of sorts into the ECU which can wreak havoc on its ability to function correctly.. So it makes sense to replace them (if their original parts that came with the car, it makes even more sense..)

BTW, is your stock ECU 3 connectors or 4? I'm assuming a first Gen ECU which is 3..

You are a smart man, Malibu.

It's a 3 connector-type ECU.

Borg Warner makes the EXACT SAME coils for a 3000GT?

Or is it just OEM Spec?

I just need to make sure, because I was told that I shouldn't alter the coil unless OEM.

Thanks,
Trung

Well, check Ebay, see if you can find a set of coils.. but yeah, USA built DSM's used alot of Borg Warner components. Technically you could convert to an aftermarket setup, but I would think getting the car to run right is a higher priority than risking more issues.

Are these the dual-tower coils? Its possible you can use GM dual pole coils if they also use similar transistorized ignitors.

Just remember you may need a new ECU after you install the coils. I take it they're the OEM that you just ordered.

Because the non OEM coils may have fried your ECU which is giving you the bad codes.

Just a hunch. I'm not an expert. But you might want to keep it in mind if the car continues to throw the codes.

I ordered OEM coils and havent been installed yet.

My ECU is good to go. I've checked

Thanks,
