my prototype air water intercooler

it goes permanently where ic sprayer bottle was mounted
the pump goes in the bottom holes
the filler is in the stock spot where the filler was before for the ic sprayer bottle
should be good for quite a few ponies to the wheels at the track

i still need to button it up add an outlet and mounts and ill need to slightly reconfigure lower ic pipe---its gonna be tight but itll make it

thoughts----criticism
regards rick

Very interesting! I'm not sure if it's been done before but it's nice to see someone breaking out of the mold.

Any idea how much the fully filled system will weigh? If so, how much more than the filled IC sprayer reservoir?

You are putting this in between the air-to-air and the throttle body?

yes it wasnt a decision made from an engineering standpoint---just a lack of options ---not much room---but the cool air coming from the air to air should benefit from water to air quite a bit...

its approx 5.5 pounds heavier filled... yea its heavier but im about 101% sure the benifits will out weigh that (((i hope )

Just get a lightweight battery and the extra weight won't matter.

What's a matter, Caleb? You're thinking cap in the avatar didn't provide you with this idea a long time ago?

Intresting....where does the fluid go after it leaves the intercooler? It still needs to be exchanged with the outside air at somepoint, I guess unless you plan on only running it for a short period of time. I'll give you credit for the attempt, but IMO, its a futile one...Goodluck with it though and make sure you let us know how it works out!

its only for the track.....the huge air to air i have is way better than the old setup even with water sprayer....
the air to water intercooler is going to have a pump and have ice water being circulated through it....its only for the track. not for daily use..
what is IMO

Very Interesting. Next step should be to the dyno with some before and after Dyno runs. If it is good for 20 hp or more, you have a marketable product on your hands. Good luck.

do you think it will be laggier then before?

can you dyno your car with and without it?
good job

couple questions looking at it from an engineers persective. now from the picture, it appears as if you have the round pipe from the intercooler going into this thing, which immediately changes to a square pipe? then it appears as if there is a 90 degree bend going into the "water cooler" section? from there a 90 degree bend out, and then converted back to a round pipe to go to the throttle body?

now, concerning the "water cooler" section... it appears as if you just welded two boxes on top and below the main airflow chamber. is there any fins to increase the heat transfer? or is it strictly a box welded onto it? are there any water channels inside this box?

what material did you use?

what sized radiator are you using for the water after it has left the "water cooler"? or are you just running the water back into a tank with the ice in it?

although this is not a new idea, i give you props for trying it yourself. and i think there are a bunch of people here who can provide some very valuable information to make your prototype into a real success. (as is, i bet it is going to hurt you more then help, but it is a good start).

another question for you, why not just eliminate the air to air all together and run the A/W full time?

is air to water more efficient then air to air??
i know little about intercoolers, how do a/w work?
