Did you ask them if the grind was due to you downshifting from 6th gear. MIT sucks!!!! Clutch causing 5th gear grind.

Things that may help.

underhood bushing
bG, pennoil, or gm syncromesh in tranny
adjust clutch pedal

from what I have read on here people say to change out shifter and all shifter bushings including the ones under the hood. I have mine on order now but it wont be installed till the weekend. From what I have gathered on here the shifter is pretty sloppy and doesent allow the synchros to get fully aligned. in the transmission. Hopefully that will help you out a little.

Mine grinds at 2nd gear pretty often, everything is stock though aside from my turbo timer. Is there something I can do to lessen the harm or improve the situation?

The fifth gear grind is covered under a TSB. It has no connection at all to your clutch it is repaired by replacing a syncro sleeve with a redesigned one. I have seen the part and the bag it came in, this is fact not fiction. Yes, my dealer took care of it under warranty. If your dealer won't fix it go to another dealer.

goto Bill Penney, Ryan. The service manager there seem cool. He's the one that drives the galant VR-4. I've been hearing there's a evo 7 around there.

Yeh, that should be TSB, and others gotten that done before. Which dealer refuse that? Because if you went to Sunny King, they'll deny warranty on everything.

Just DONT rebuild it with Mitsu. I have had it done twice by Mitsu and both were awful, now requiring a 3rd. The first was a 5th gear issue, the second a 3-4 issue, now a 5th again. Im not touching it until I have the time and $$ to bring it to Shep. Plus, that'll give him more time to imrpove on the Evo 8 tranny.

the asst service manager used to own a vr-4, but he sold it to his nephew. He now has an evo 7.

bill penny is great to work with. If theres a tsb, they usually do it without you even having to ask.

ok, there is a TSB out for the 5th gear grind, but Victor said you have to take everything out before you go in for that service.

That's the only way they'll fix it. Seems like the district managers are jerks, they'll void anything.
