Going over 1.5 boost is considered dangerous with current fuel quality!

Guys,

I've just spoken to a well known engine tuner in Belgium. He's willingly to install and tune a Motec but refuses to go over 1.5 peak boost. This will result in 360-370 hp and around 450-480Nm. His reasoning is that the current fuel quality on the public road is that bad you will destroy your engine running the available 98 octane fuel with higher boost values, even if octane booster is used. This guy has an excellent reputation, you can look at his website: www.kempower.be. He's looking for an alternative by installing bigger turbo, ..., but keep the 1.5 peak.

What's the deal with all those guys running 1.8 and more on regular fuel?

Any ideas,

Thanks,

Jan.

Funny, Jan I have had a look at their site some time ago when I was looking for people near Düsseldorf that could help me map my car. I don't think boost has that much to do with it, more like ignition timing, although they are obviously interconnected. The people that run even up to 2bar with the Evo engines must dump absolute shítloads of fuel into the cylinders at that time, for that at least a stronger fuel pump or a rewired one will be needed. Maybe you could get that guy to explain exactly where he sees the problem? It must be ignition timing which he has a problem with. Although I have run 1,6 bar on my car and not too big problems until the faults of the PE ECU kick in. Really, let him explain, maybe even on this forum? Then I could ask him a few questions too, cause if he knows what he's doing he'll have another customer in me...

One more question: How much does he want for the tuning work? In Euros, please, cause that's how I'd be paying

Knocking is his problem, I just had a conversation with him over the phone. He asks just below 4000 Euro for installing/mapping the Motec with the hp/nm numbers I mentioned above.
As you can see on his site and what he was telling, much higher numbers can be achieved easely, but only with racing fuel. And I'm not willing to run on racing fuel, that cost around 250 Euro / 50 liters. That means around 8 laps on the ring and bye bye 250 Euro, forget that.

Yep, knocking is the problem, which means ignition timing and 4000 Euros for that job?!? If the Motec is included in the price it's o.k.. In that case which Motec is it?

Did you speak to them before, what do they say about higher boost values?

4000 Euro including flights and an M48 Pro?? I really don't think so Claudius. The M48 Pro itself already costs about 1500 pounds....
Jan, which Motec is that Kempower will be using? 4000 Euros for everything seems quite good. My tip is the M4....

Claudius, we both have to brake late as our damn ABS can't be turned off . We're lucky to have the same colour, at least one of us will drive home in one piece as we can swap parts from one to another. Now we need to agree on who will drive home with the healthy parts. Let's say, the one with the fastest lap can , there can only be one .
