RPM rises then drops back HELP
RPM rises then drops back HELP
hey guys, i've got a concern.
one of my friends just got an MR about a month ago. It was driving fine but now when in any gear in full throttle the rpm jumps up and then back down.
example.... I'm in forth gear low rpm, i floor it, when the rpm hits about 3500 the rpm just suddenly jumps to 5500 then back down to 3500 and then feels normal. This happens in every gear but first is not noticable.
If i am at partial throttle the car feels normal all the way to redline.
The car is completely stock by the way.

He must have done some serious launches. It looks like the clutch is slipping due to high temp glazing or the clutch is gone.
But, I believe he glazed the clutch so just drive it normal for awhile and it should get better.

this happens even when im not on the cluth. i could be in 5th gear cruising then start to floor it without touching the clutch and it still happens. I thought that if a clutch is slipping you feel the slip after you use the pedal.
aiight, i think it is the kid who killed the clutch. car has less than 3000 miles and he was telling me how he ran at the track.
off topic but.... after feeling his car i now appreciate what a nice driven clutch feels like. I baby my car too much. =)

The reason why clutch slips in 5th gear or any higher gears is due to engine torque. When you floor it the engine wants to spin but you're in a higher gear which requires more power to drive the gear. But since your clutch is weak, it spins instead. If you are using lower gear at higher speed, it doesn't require lot of torque to drive gears.
