I was at a stop light today, sitting in neutral. I shifted to first and noticed that there was a lot of free play and it did not require as much force as before. Bewildered, I tried to shift back to neutral but to no avail; it was stuck in first gear. Knowing this was a very serious issue I immediately got to a safe area and parked the car (10 yards away). However, the car seemed harder to get moving, ie more gas and more slipping, but there was no grinding noise. Any ideas what is broken before it gets taken to the dealership?
