catback is an aftermarket exhaust that runs AFTER the catalytic converter.

a turboback runs immediately after the turbo, and includes a different downpipe and hi-flo cat or test pipe

^^ Yep, cat-backs have a cat. Turbobacks don't.

well, i dont think having a cat or not is necessarily what distinguishes a catback from a turboback. I think the downpipe is the key factor.

wow... that was the most horrible comment i've ever seen...

a cat back runs from the catalytic converter back, a turboback runs from the 02 housing back, unless you get an 02 eliminating downpipe.

clarifications. there are 5 parts to your stock evo exhaust system. the first is the exhuast header (also known as exhaust manifold, exact same thing just different names). the second is the hot side of the turbo. the third is the o2 sensor housing. the fourth is the downpipe. the fifth is the catalitic converter. the sixth is the catback exhaust including muffler.

upgrading any of these will get your power, some more than others, and some in low or high end depending on how you upgrade (how big/long/straight/short etc.).

additional comment, you can get a turbo back with or without a cat, i should have mentioned above that you can make more power by also removing parts. a straight pipe will make more power than a cat. idealy you would run a short pipe striaght off the turbo shooting into the the ground or the side of the car but that's loud and highly illegal + obvious.
